The University of Bologna has very ancient origins that indicate it as the first university in the Western world. Its history is intertwined with that of great figures who worked in the field of science and literature and is an essential reference in the panorama of European culture.

• 31 Departments make up the University of Bologna.
• There are also 7 Interdepartmental Industrial Research Centers and 11 Interdepartmental Research and/or Training Structures.
• 98 libraries and structures provide bibliographic-documentary services to support study and teaching, research, professional and cultural activities; the University Museum System includes 15 structures including Museums and Collections dedicated to various disciplines.

Since January 2023, 11 excellent Departments have been funded by the MUR.

Over 670 research projects are funded at European level, over 780 have obtained national funding and over 570 at regional and local level.

As regards the PNRR, 28 projects have been approved.

58 spin-off and start-up companies are active and accredited and 800 patents/plant varieties are registered.
