Program Description

The study program is organized into: (i) a first foundational year, dedicated to mathematics, physics, and foundations of computer science, (ii) a second year dedicated to engineering training, both in the characteristic fields of computer science and automation as well as in related and integrative disciplines, (iii) a third year in which some more advanced common teachings are accompanied by teachings relevant to the curricula: Computer Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Management, Automation, and Robotics.

All educational paths provided by the study program offer a basic training, guaranteed by a series of methodological teachings, with elements of professional training, which are developed in some teachings of applied significance and then experienced in the context of the internship, which is required for all students, at companies and institutions affiliated with the University.

The teaching activities take place in an organized and pleasant campus, close to the center of Rome, and easily accessible by public transport. The classrooms are welcoming and are located in the same building that houses the faculty offices, thus facilitating interaction between students and faculty. The teaching laboratories are spacious, modern, and well-organized. Students also have access to a new library and ample study spaces. The university cafeteria is nearby, as are the sports facilities.

Student involvement in educational activities at foreign universities is encouraged and facilitated, for example through Erasmus programs or through internships at foreign companies, universities, or research institutions. The degree belongs to the L-8 class of degrees in Information Engineering and allows access, upon passing the State Exam, to the professional register of the Order of Engineers in Section B, Information sector. Graduates will be able to continue their studies at an advanced level in the fields of computer engineering, Artificial Intelligence Engineering, Management Engineering, and Automation and Robotics Engineering, as well as to proceed independently in professional development.

Admission Requirements

The study program is programmed access. To enroll in the degree course, it is necessary to submit an online application within the deadlines set by the specific enrollment announcement and take an assessment test, aimed also at verifying the possession of the basic knowledge necessary for attending the courses. Students admitted to the programmed number based on the ranking who do not have a sufficient score in the entrance test will have additional educational obligations (OFA) for which individual or group activities are organized in the form of tutoring and/or recovery courses, both in person and through the MOOC 'Thinking of Studying Engineering' via the platform mooc.el.uniroma3.it.

Career Opportunities

The main employment opportunities are represented, but not limited to:

  • For the computer systems area, by IT industries operating in the fields of production, especially software, by companies in the sectors of information systems, computer networks, and telecommunications, by the competent structures for IT in public administrations and service companies;
  • For the artificial intelligence and machine learning area, within companies, public entities, and research centers, at the national or international level, that deal with the design, development, and management of complex intelligent systems, with particular reference to machine learning topics.
  • For the management area, from all companies related to the production of goods and services, such as manufacturing, logistics, and transportation companies, banks, as well as for public administrations and research entities. In particular, decision-making functions are of interest, including strategic functions related to the sizing of production capacity, planning and control functions, operational functions for managing activities, procurement and material management, organization of production systems, logistics, and project management.
  • For the automation and robotics area, from electronic and electromechanical companies, where functions for sizing and realization of complex architectures, automatic systems, autonomous systems, robotic systems, and automation engineering are developed, from electronic and electromechanical companies, where functions for sizing and realization of complex architectures, automatic systems, processes, and plants for automation are developed, from manufacturing companies of services and public administration for procurement and material management, for organizing activities, for organizing and automating production systems, for logistics and project management.

About the School

Roma Tre University is a young university thought for young people. Founded in 1992, it has rapidly grown both in terms of students and the courses offered.

It has gained an excellent rating among the most prominent academic rankings, especially within the younger universities.

Roma Tre University is organized into 13 departments offering Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, Postgraduate and Advanced courses, PhDs, and Specialisation Schools.

A dynamic, modern, and international university that has been immediately identified as the vital lever of the urban development of the capital, within which it is now deeply rooted, contributing to changing the city’s identity with a persevering process of restructuring and re-using abandoned industrial buildings, converting them into factories of knowledge and research.

Among its founding values, Roma Tre assumes the promotion and organization of high-quality international research, excellence in higher education, as well as in the development and dissemination of knowledge, environmental protection, international solidarity, the principles of gender equity, and the evaluation and recognition of merit.

Teaching and research, in all disciplinary areas, constantly interact and target a global world, thus promoting the upgrading and enrichment of knowledge; they combine their action with the third mission, considered both as technology transfer and as a projection of higher education activities on the territory.

The international dimension is considered a strategic aspect of the University, which adheres, among others, to the inspirational principles of the Magna Charta Universitatum and identifies itself with the principles and tools of the European Research and Higher education Area.
