The aim of the Doctorate in Reproduction and Development Sciences is to provide an interdisciplinary and, when possible, international academic professional training program, aimed at preparing highly qualified researchers in the field of biomedical sciences and, particularly, in the maternal and newborn child health area. The School mission is to form practitioners able to represent in the future the staff of Universities, IRCCS (Scientific Research Institutes) and other Biomedical Research Institutes and Industries. The Doctorate makes also available the opportunity to be trained in international cooperative research programs in the development of emerging countries. The training program consists of two research areas: Clinical epidemiology and Molecular genetics. The purpose of the Clinical epidemiology school is to enable researchers to carry out clinical trials in the biological and medical field, to validate new guidelines, to propose innovative therapeutic and diagnostic approaches. The aim of the school is also to train researchers to relieve the necessity of people and perform epidemiological surveys to assess the health effects of preventive measures.
The Molecular genetic path has the purpose to train qualified experts in different fields of research (basic and applied), diagnostics and personalized treatments, able to communicate and interact with a clinical environment, and finalizing their experience to care needs.

The university participates in many research projects at national and international level. It is also involved in various student and staff exchange programmes with universities in the EU and collaborates with several universities from Eastern Europe and other non-EU countries.
Universities are crossroads of knowledge.
Following the Lisbon strategy, which emphasizes the creation of a more competitive and dynamic knowledge-based society, international mobility and internationalisation of the universities may represent a strategic tool for a social, cultural and economic development of a country. They can be considered as a challenge and an opportunity for the involved Higher Institutions to enlarge and enrich their range of the courses offered.
The internationalisation of its system, which has been started by the University of Trieste since long, is perfectly in line with these points and lies also in the strategic position and historical international vocation of the city of Trieste.
The University of Trieste is actively involved in different Programmes at a European level (LLP Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Alpe Adria, Bovec Summer School) and within wider European (Tempus) and international frameworks (ISEP Programme, International Mobility Grant Programme, Marco Polo Project).
