BAI – Bachelor in Artificial Intelligence is an inter-university course organized by 3 Italian Universities of excellence and aimed at training young professionals in the “4.0 World” through specific programs related to the development of advanced automation tools and man-machine interaction with intelligent behaviour.
It is open to all students holding a High school Diploma (or a recognized equivalent qualification) obtained at least after 12 years of schooling. The course lasts 3 years, during which the student must pass 21 exams and attend other activities, acquiring a total of 180 credits, 60 per year. Each year is divided into 2 semesters (1st September-February; 2nd March-June), with 3 exam sessions (Winter, Summer and Autumn).
The teaching activity takes various forms, including lectures, seminars and laboratories, the attendance of which is not compulsory but strongly recommended.
From a scientific and science fiction topic, Artificial Intelligence has quickly become an everyday experience: automatic diagnoses, automatic translations, drug synthesis, speech recognition, image recognition, autonomous driving. Nowadays innovative companies, big industrial players, research centers and public institutions express a growing demand for AI professionals in the roles of data and information analysts, decision support operators, system developers and smart device designers. Practical training in physics, mathematics and computer science allows AI graduates to identify solutions to data analysis, processing, classification, and optimization problems, as well as to foster communication between the engineering and management components of decision-making in all sectors.
The expertise in Artificial Intelligence can be applied to various corporate functions and fields:
Track 1 — Data analysis, communication and marketing AI application is a determining factor for business opportunities in all sectors and in any type of enterprise. In order to make strategic marketing and communication choices, tomorrow’s decision makers will rely on experts capable of big data analysis, knowledge management and customer support & retention.
Track 2 — Industrial systems and healthcare In the “4.0 Industry” only companies implementing AI can achieve greater results in terms of performance and increase their competitiveness. In fact, ore flexible production, higher productivity and the development of new business models and processes today have only been made possible thanks to innovative digital solutions, embedded systems, automation programs and resources based on the human-machine relationship. A BAI degree will be also increasingly sought after in the Healthcare sector, which already requires programs for telemedicine platforms, innovative Medicine-ICT interfaces, wearable exoskeletons and movement aids.
Track 3 — Brain, cognition and society The expertise in Artificial Intelligence is also used in the development of bio-inspired algorithms, human-environment interaction systems, ICT innovations and advanced solutions for applied neuroscience, such as neuromarketing technologies.
Track 4 — Physics for AI: environment, health and quantum information Lastly AI plays a key role in several fields related to the study, management and allocation of environmental resources, including astronomy, nuclear physics and environmental monitoring, in which computer science, mathematical models and physical technology are effectively applied.
The University of Milan is a public teaching and research university, which - with 8 faculties and 2 schools and a teaching staff of more than 2000 professors - is distinguished by its wide variety of disciplinary fields. A leading institute in Italy and Europe for scientific productivity, the University of Milan is the largest university in the region, with approximately 64,000 students; it is also an important resource for the socio-economic context of which it is a part. Milan is, in fact, the capital of Lombardy, one of the most dynamic and international regions in the European Union, a leader in the national economy that stands at the Italian forefront of research and development investments and commitment to technological innovation.
The University of Milan also possesses a remarkable artistic and cultural heritage that includes important historic buildings, inherited and acquired collections, archives, botanical gardens and the old Brera Observatory commissioned by Maria Teresa of Austria. The University’s departments are housed in important historic edifices in the center of Milan and in modern buildings in the area known as Città Studi (the City of Studies). Among the palazzos that house the University’s facilities are the old Ca' Granda (the big house) – a monumental complex from the 15th-century in the heart of the historical city centre - the 18th-century Palazzo Greppi designed by Giuseppe Piermarini – who built the Scala Theatre in Milan – and the 17th-century Sant’Alessandro College commissioned by the Arcimboldi family. The book collection , which is one of the richest in the region, is preserved in 47 libraries, while the APICE Centre collects rare and valuable book stocks and archives. The University also has a Choir and its own Orchestra, which actively contributes to the cultural life of the city and receives international acknowledgments on an increasingly frequent basis.
