Our Master’s in Human Resources with Employment Law programme enables professionals to specialise in the legal aspects of human resource management and employment. With modules focusing on Global Business Strategy and Strategic Human Resource Management, Employment Law, Mediation and Dispute Resolution, you’ll develop a broad comprehension of the most important concepts in people management in both a legal and global context.

Course Details

The MSc Human Resources with Employment Law programme prepares both entry-level and established professionals to develop their careers as HR leaders, managers, general managers and HR business specialists.

Students will develop their understanding of Human Resource Management and Leadership across a variety of organisational settings, taking into account the way national and international contexts impact upon people management. They will also gain a critical understanding of the legal framework governing human resources and employment.

The Business School prides itself on the practical relevancy of its programmes which combine critical theory with real-life case studies and are delivered by academics with substantial industry experience. We have successfully accredited this programme with a professionally-recognised CMI (Chartered Management Institute) qualification.

Placement Year

Choose to study the optional Placement Year for the opportunity to gain significant practical skills and elevate your career. Employers are looking for graduates with a business-ready mindset; this entails an understanding of business ethics and values, self-awareness, mental flexibility and openness, resilience, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Should you be unable to complete the full corporate governance and ethics programme, you may still be awarded a Diploma or Certificate depending on the terms completed.

Our Business School campuses are in London Bloomsbury, Birmingham and Manchester for undergraduate courses. Postgraduate courses are taught at our Birmingham, Leeds, London Moorgate and Manchester campuses. Each is a thriving commercial hub, ideally situated to give you great access to music venues, theatres, cinemas, bars and restaurants. Our postgraduate courses can be studied part-time or full-time and also available online.

Online:

Our online programmes will save you the time and money on commuting to and from campus and allow you to study anywhere, across devices, however you can be reassured that the course won’t be compromised on quality or be less demanding than our on-campus courses.

You will be taught in group sizes that promote a supportive learning relationship with your lecturers, in small workshops - essential for student success – with each student able to access their personal tutor. Our lecturers are engaging academics who combine their passion for business, wealth of industry knowledge and professional business links, to benefit your learning both in and outside of the classroom environment.

Careers and Employability:

Employability is at the heart of everything we do at the Business School. Our employability team will provide you with one-to-one advice on how to successfully engage with business contacts from major UK recruiters such as IBM, Lloyds of London and Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC), who you will meet through events, workshops and visits to organisations, enabling you to see first-hand how business operates in the real world. We run events throughout the year including guest speakers, panel discussions, masterclasses and competitions. The support you’ll receive, led and informed by employer practice, will maximise your ability to submit successful job applications, secure internships and hone your interview skills.

Chartered Management Institute (CMI):

As some courses at the Business School are accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), students on these particular courses can gain automatic free membership for the duration of their course and for one year after completion.

Benefits include access to ManagementDirect; the UK’s largest management library along with access to the online resource portal including e-journals, company and industry reports as well as advice from over 300 hiring managers through The Career Development Centre.

You’ll get access to current job listings via the JobSearch database and a wealth of videos, tutorials and articles to develop your career and business skills. The online CMI mentoring community comprises over 120,000 members where you can be matched according to the skills, experience and industry of interest as well as finding out about CMI networking events that you can take part in.

On successful completion of one of our CMI accredited courses, you’ll also receive a qualification from the CMI in addition to your degree.

Accommodation:

For our undergraduate students, we’ve arranged accommodation with specialist UK student accommodation providers, to ensure you have a comfortable place to live whilst you’re studying with us. Accommodation is usually in shared flats, or in some cases self-contained studios.

For undergraduate students, we guarantee you an offer of accommodation in the first year of your degree, if you’ve accepted us as your firm choice and applied for accommodation by 30 March in the year of entry* (*T&Cs apply, details on The University of Law website, Undergraduate Accommodation page).

For postgraduate students, if you choose a campus away from home, our accommodation database can help you find a place to live, with the option to find privately rented property or shared accommodation with other ULaw students.

Open Days and Events:

Our Open Days are a great way to find out about our Business courses, check out our facilities, and meet our tutors and current students. There’ll be talks, taster sessions and tours, and you will have the chance to ask your questions. We’ll make your day as interesting and interactive as possible.
