Our world-renowned graduate program provides a select group of highly motivated students the opportunity for research and graduates education in the biomedical sciences, chemistry, and biophysics.
Rockefeller University is committed to recruiting and supporting a diverse graduate community. It encourages applications from individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The graduate program is flexible and individualized according to each student’s particular needs and academic interests, offering rigorous training and close mentoring by faculty.
To learn science, do science. It’s the foundation of our educational program and the key to our students’ success. Rockefeller’s structure is designed to stimulate interaction between researchers from different disciplines. With no departments and unique, collaborative culture, our laboratories are at the centre of the PhD training program.
In consultation with the dean of graduate studies, students choose a flexible combination of courses, offering unparalleled freedom to structure their own academic experience and study course.
While courses are grouped into major areas of study, students can meet degree requirements by participating in various courses. If Rockefeller does not offer a course to meet a specific educational need, in many cases, students can take courses offered outside the university.
Rockefeller education and training opens the door to a wide variety of careers for biomedical scientists. In addition to academic research, Rockefeller students and postdocs also have interests in research and non-research careers in biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, science teaching and education, technology transfer and intellectual property, management consulting, science writing and publishing, and science policy and diplomacy.
Established in 1901, the Rockefeller Institute for Biomedical Research was a revolutionary concept of the time: an institute dedicated to researching the underlying causes of disease.
The world’s leading biomedical research university, Rockefeller draws top scientists and graduate students from around the world to pursue one mission: to conduct science for the benefit of humanity.
Our nimble organizational structure is designed to speed progress. Unrestricted by bureaucracy, our scientists are free to move in whichever direction their research takes them and poised to perform at their best.
Rockefeller has a strong tradition of translational science—nearly half of the university’s laboratories conduct studies on human subjects. The exceptional resources at The Rockefeller University Hospital allow our scientists to conduct clinical research that would be difficult to do anywhere else.
