Students with an undergraduate degree in architecture may apply directly to the 4th year of AHO's Master of Architecture programme. Throughout the 2,5 years (150 ECTS), the students can choose among a wide variety of available studio courses in order to pursue their individual interests and tailor their professional and academic competence.
The architecture programme educates leading practitioners of the discipline. AHO is internationally respected and a preferred partner among the world’s leading universities. With a special focus on the integration of built form and the environment, it addresses contemporary issues in architecture, visions of the future and the heritage of Scandinavian design.
AHO emphasises the relationship between thinking and building in the context of research and design, and offers a broad spectrum of approaches to architectural design. The program is organized around specific areas of focus that define individual viewpoints, whether through the particulars of architectonic realization, urban complexity and spatial development, theory’s critical challenge or the implicit value of the existing built environment.
Studio-based teaching
Comprehensive studio courses are the key elements of the academic programmes at AHO. The studio courses focus on project work, integrating academic knowledge and applied skills. A low faculty to student ratio of one to eight encourages individual
development and collaboration. AHO has an international faculty that provides the necessary breadth of a contemporary architecture and design education.
Diploma
The Master Diploma is the student’s concluding project and is completed during their final semester. The project is often connected to research and development activities at AHO. Diplomas are judged by external examiners, after which the degree of Master of Architecture is awarded.
The Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) offers a unique research-based education of international standing. Established in 1945, today it has built a solid national funding base and is prominently ranked internationally. AHO awards three master’s degrees in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Design, as well as a PhD programme.
