Program Description

The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum at Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy prepares professional student pharmacists to enter the pharmacy profession with the knowledge, skills, and experience expected of highly-trained health care professionals. We graduated from our four-year program practice pharmacy in a broad range of clinical and community settings in Texas and across the nation. Our curriculum prepares students to be successful, regardless of the setting in which they choose to practice (e.g., hospital pharmacy).

To that end, faculty-driven content is provided to develop the curriculum in biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, social/behavioural/administrative sciences, and clinical sciences. The curriculum is sequenced and integrated with a planned blend of teaching and learning methods. All graduates' professional competencies are systematically assessed by direct and indirect methods and administered by college faculty and affiliated professional pharmacists. Attainment of the desired student learning outcomes is assessed using formative and summative evaluations to confirm the curricular design. The program's primary goal is to provide a comprehensive pharmacy education in a stimulating environment that prepares students for pharmacy practice as competent, caring, and ethical professionals dedicated to the provision of optimal pharmaceutical care.

One-third of your classes, including all of your fourth year, will be spent training in clinics and hospitals. Experiential Education gets you out of the classroom and into real-world settings. Our preceptors, faculty who teach and mentor in clinical settings, provide valuable on-the-job pharmacy experience.

Rotations provide exposure to a variety of clinical settings and allow students to work alongside other health professions. Students complete six rotations at locations including Houston, Bryan/College Station, Corpus Christi, the Rio Grande Valley, Round Rock, and Temple. This is more than just an educational experience; preceptors and rotation sites can help provide networking and career opportunities after graduation.

About the School

The Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy was created to meet a critical need in the South Texas community. Today, 42 percent of graduates from our fully-accredited program have returned to South Texas to help underserved populations as Aggie pharmacists.

In all we do, we dedicate the full measure of our resources and abilities to advancing our profession's knowledge and technologies. We strive to cultivate a culture of excellence in research, practice, and patient care in each professional student enrolled in our pharmacy program. Guided by our Core Values, we continue to enhance the quality of lives in the border region, the state of Texas, and beyond.

Our mission is to develop and inspire a diverse group of future leaders in pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences through transformational education, innovative research, holistic care, and effective outreach and service.

Rangel College of Pharmacy students can enroll in Kingsville or College Station, receiving the same transformational education at either campus. All students and faculty benefit from collaboration opportunities for basic sciences and translational research with the rest of the Texas A&M University Health Science Center colleges, institutes, and partners. Combined with experiential education placements throughout our vast preceptor network, we're expanding our impact across South Texas and beyond.
