The Bachelor of Arts in Geology provides a foundation in geology for students who are not planning a career as a geologist. This program provides a basis for science-related careers, such as environmental law, pre-college teaching, science journalism, and resource management and marketing. Graduates will supplement their curriculum in geology with a minor designed around their career goals. The minor requires a minimum of 15 credit hours in one discipline, to be chosen in consultation with an advisor.
The B.A. program has less rigorous mathematics and physics requirements and less comprehensive geology requirements than the B.S. in Geology; therefore, the B.S. is the more appropriate option for students considering graduate study in geology.
The College of Geosciences at Texas A&M University offers a comprehensive program in geoscience research, education and engagement. The College is made up of a diverse mix of academic departments and programs that examine the solid Earth, the atmosphere, the oceans, and human cultures to address the intimate relationships between people and Earth systems.
The College of Geosciences is home to four departments:
Atmospheric Sciences
Geography
Geology and Geophysics
Oceanography
In addition to the departments, the College is also home to two academic programs: Environmental Programs in Geosciences, and the Water Degree Program.
The College of Geosciences is home to nine research centers and consortiums that focus on interdisciplinary and collaborative research aimed at addressing global issues that affect our everyday lives:
Berg-Hughes Center for Petroleum and Sedimentary Systems
Center for Atmospheric Chemistry and the Environment
GEOSAT
Geochemical and Environmental Research Group
International Ocean Discovery Program
Office of the State Climatologist
Center for Tectonophysics
Texas Center for Climate Studies
Texas Sea Grant
We work together in collaborative research and engagement with scientists from throughout The Texas A&M University System, including the Texas A&M College of Agriculture, College of Architecture, and College of Engineering, as well as Texas A&M Galveston and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
