Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health is a professional degree that provides a population-based perspective and is designed to prepare students to investigate and manage public health problems.

The Council on Education fully accredits the Upstate Public Health program in Public Health (CEPH).

Our unique Upstate Public Health program relies on Upstate Medical University's academic strengths in clinical medicine, social and behavioural sciences, health policy, and program administration.

Upstate Public Health students strive to understand public health problems and develop innovative methods to improve their communities and larger populations.

We are committed to ensuring that the academic experience here is intellectually challenging and equips our students with the necessary leadership skills in public health. In addition to gaining a solid foundation in public health principles, research methodology, and real-world application, our students can choose a topic they are passionate about and devote considerable time to it in fieldwork and research.

After they earn their Public Health degree, our students can apply their knowledge and skills to solve wide-ranging public health problems by translating sound research into beneficial programs and policies.

Upstate Public Health students represent a broad range of individuals from within and outside the health care professions. Among them are recent college graduates from various majors, nurses, lawyers, administrators, physician assistants, medical students, and physicians. Class sessions and group projects are greatly enriched by the unique perspectives that each student brings.

SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, is the only academic medical centre in Central New York. It is also the region's largest employer with 9,460 employees. Affiliated with the State University of New York, Upstate's mission is to improve the community's health through education, biomedical research, and health care.

Its four colleges anchor Upstate Medical University's educational mission—Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, and Graduate Studies (biomedical sciences).

As a biomedical research enterprise, Upstate focuses on the most prevalent human diseases, including cancer, diabetes, heart disease, nervous system disorders, vision, and infectious diseases. The quest for treatments and cures is built upon expertise in structural, molecular, and systems biology. Upstate also offers many clinical trials for patients.

We offer dozens of unique health care services to our region through Upstate University Hospital, Upstate University Hospital at Community Campus, and our outpatient clinics. We also house the Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital to serve the region.
