Program Description

Kick-start your career in the international sporting arena!

This program is designed for students interested in working in international sportS, either outside of the United States or with international sports organizations within the United States, and who are interested in taking classes on campus in a traditional classroom setting. You're already excited about everything to do with sports. Now you're ready to step up your game on a global scale — so it just makes sense to pursue an M.S. in International Sports Management at SUNY Cortland. In this 30-credit-hour program, you will balance theory and practice as you gain a solid understanding of the international sports management environment. You will complete 12-24 class credit hours on the SUNY Cortland campus and have opportunities to fulfill the remaining class credit hours in an international study abroad location such as Germany or Australia. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to pursue international internship opportunities.

Students in our International Sports Management program have previously interned with the following sports organizations: the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games, IMG Licensing in Cologne, Perth Heat Baseball in Australia, the United States Olympic Committee, USA Rugby, NBC Sports, and the International Tennis Federation, among many others. Graduates of the International Sports Management program work in a diverse array of sports organizations throughout the world, including the International Paralympic Committee, USA Judo, Octagon Inc., Athletic Ireland, and Taiwan Triathlon, among others. Additionally, several of our graduates have gone on to Ph.D. programs at schools such as Florida State University and the University of Louisville.

How many students are in the program?

There are between 75 and 100 graduate students across all the programs at any one time. Approximately 15-20 are in the ISPM program specifically.
