Suitable for health professionals with an interest in exercise and the potential of physical activity, this course incorporates the exploration of physical activity in various critical settings within the public health arena (eg obesity, sedentary lifestyles and diabetes). This is a flexible programme structured to provide core and option modules tailored to the individual student profile.
In parallel to and offering shared learning with the MSc Rehabilitation, this course offers the opportunity to enhance the skills of critical enquiry and gain an appreciation of the underlying theory, research and policy guiding current health practice. There is a strong emphasis on exercise physiology, the role of exercise through the lifespan, and psychology for exercise to understand issues critical to adherence and behaviour change.

St George’s Hospital Medical School was established in 1733 and initially based at Hyde Park Corner, before moving to our Tooting site in 1980. It was the second institution in England to provide formal training courses for doctors. Find out more about our history here. St George’s alumni include pioneers in medicine, John Hunter, Edward Jenner, Henry Gray and Patrick Steptoe.
St George’s has a dynamic research culture, with teams working to improve the health of people of all ages, from children to the elderly, in populations locally and globally. We are the only UK university based in a hospital (St George’s Hospital). This is also where Channel 4 television series 24 hours in A&E is filmed). St George’s is the only university in the UK to specialise in healthcare and medicine.
