The four-year BSc Special Honours Degree provides avenues for students to specialize in five different areas namely :

SPECIALIZATION

01. Information Technology

The degree program specializing in Information Technology covers the more technological and applied aspects of computing discipline including software design and software engineering, operating systems, systems administration, and technical support, as well as networking.

Graduates of this program typically find positions as software engineers, Software Developers software architects, software quality assurance engineers, web developers, IT managers, and systems administrators.

02. Information Systems

The degree program specializing in Information Systems caters to those who are interested in becoming specialists that focus on integrating information technology solutions and business processes to meet the information needs of businesses and other enterprises, enabling them to achieve their objectives in an effective and efficient manner.

Graduates of this program typically find careers as business analysts, system analysts, information managers, and information specialists.

03. Computer Systems & Networking

The degree program specializing in Computer Systems and Networking covers the computer engineering aspects of computing discipline including computer hardware, network engineering, embedded systems, communication systems, interface design, and automation.

Positions available for such graduates include network engineers, network designers, systems designers, systems administrators, embedded systems designers, embedded software designers, Information Systems Auditors, Information Security Managers, Database Administrators, IT Managers, and Communication Engineers.

04. Software Engineering

The degree programme specializing in Software Engineering prepares me for a professional career by providing the necessary skills needed to develop large-scale software systems. It combines a solid foundation in requirements engineering, human-computer interaction, software analysis and design, programming, software quality assurance, communication skills, and an understanding of the social effects of IT. Graduates following this programme find positions as software engineers, mobile application developers, UI engineers, software architects, games developers, software quality assurance engineers.

05. Interactive Media

The degree program specializing in Interactive Media covers the more technological and applied aspects of the computing discipline including web development, digital imaging, authoring, animation, and video editing.

The programme caters to those who are interested in becoming specialists focused on multimedia technology.

Graduates from this program typically find positions as an animator, art director, e-commerce developer, executive producer, graphic designer or artist, interactive designer, or interface designer.

We are a leading non-state degree awarding institute approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the Universities Act. We are members of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), as well as the International Association of Universities (IAU). We are also the first Sri Lankan institute to be accredited by the Institution of Engineering & Technology, UK.

SLIIT was established in 1999. We opened our doors to 395 students in Metro Campus in Colombo. Currently, we offer both undergraduate and postgraduate courses and accommodate over 9000 students, including international students from various regions in the world. More than 15000 alumni have graduated from our faculties. We take great pride in producing graduates who make meaningful contributions to their communities and professions.

SLIIT attracts the largest share of private higher education students in Sri Lanka and our courses are designed to equip graduates to succeed in contemporary workplaces with their exposure to practical (lab, internship etc) as well as the classroom environment. According to the graduate Tracer Studies of 2016/2017, nearly 90% of our Bachelor degree graduates find full-time employment within six months of course completion. We are one of premier degree awarding institutes with the 25 acres site to provide the university exposure for our students.
