Take the opportunity to build a career that enables you to travel and work in some of the most attractive destinations in the world.
The Master of International Tourism and Hospitality Management is specifically designed to give you a competitive edge to work in leadership roles in a highly sought after and diverse industry.
This flexible course gives you foundational knowledge in business and tourism, including entrepreneurship and marketing, accounting and management, tourism planning, systems and contemporary hotel management. You will also have the opportunity to pursue your own topic of interest and gain applied research skills in an industry based project.
Graduates will have opportunities across a range of tourism industry employers, from hotels to airlines, event management to destination marketing, or in their own tourism start-up.
Graduates may move into supervisory or management positions in resorts, hotels, government tourism bodies, non-profit, destination marketing, and tourism organizations, airlines, convention and event operators and other special interest tourism businesses.
As part of this course, students may choose to undertake a 300-hour internship (equivalent to two units) in either a paid or volunteer role. This practical experience, combined with theoretical understanding, enhances the learning experience for students who have a professional and personal interest in this high growth area.
Students are responsible for securing their internship placement and are given extensive assistance in interview and application procedures, access to an extensive database of potential employers and roles and ongoing support from the dedicated Work Integrated Learning team.
The course provides a comprehensive study of aspects of tourism and hotel management from both theoretical and practical 'real world' perspectives taught by academics with industry backgrounds.
Students also undertake an independent research project (equal to two units), towards the end of their degree, to focus on an aspect of tourism that interests them.
Students are assessed in each unit on the basis of written and/or oral assignments. These may include researched essays, reports, presentations, case studies, portfolios, online discussions, tests, and exams, as well as more interactive assessments such as blogs, wikis, online discussion boards and multi-media presentations. Students may also be asked to participate in group work as well as individual assignments. The weighting of assessment marks between assignments and examinations varies.
On-campus students experience a variety of teaching approaches including lectures, tutorials, online activities and video-linked or podcast virtual classes. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.
Our online study option is highly interactive and strives to promote collaboration and a sense of community. Students may receive a combination of the podcast or video-linked lectures, electronic study materials, workshops, online discussion forums and virtual classes. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.
