Program Description

Mechanics is at the heart of many technological processes in the energy sector, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, defense, transportation, and other sectors. Computational modeling plays a key role in the development of state-of-the-art technologies in these areas. The Skoltech Applied Computational Mechanics program offers a modern curriculum with classes on the modeling of mechanics of fluids and solids, analysis of multiphase and reacting flows, and computational science and engineering. Graduates will become leaders in research and development of modern computational tools required by high-tech industries. Our students will: gain a deep understanding of fundamentals of continuum mechanics, applied mathematics and modeling, numerical methods, scientific software development, and use of modern software tools, including advanced open-source software in mechanics; be able to specialize in modern areas of advanced computational fluid dynamics, theory and computation of multi-phase flows, computational engineering, and methods of applied machine learning; gain a good understanding of the needs of modern high-tech industries through involvement in joint industry-oriented research projects with partner companies.

Admission Requirements

Knowledge and skills: Mathematical analysis, linear algebra, ordinary and partial differential equations, numerical methods, fluid and solid mechanics, programming. Education: Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in mechanics, applied mathematics, physics or computational science. English language: If your education has not been conducted in English, you will be expected to demonstrate evidence of an adequate level of English proficiency.

Career Opportunities

Our graduates shape their own futures by choosing from a variety of career opportunities in industry, science and business. Industry: landing specialist positions such as Data Analyst, Data Scientist, Industrial Research Scientist, Consultant in various industry sectors (Сhemical and Pharmaceutical industry, Oil & Gas, IT, Finance, and others). Science: landing PhD positions and continuing research at leading Russian and international universities and research entities.
