How it works

Support is provided for up to 12 months but it is entirely up to you how quickly you work through the course. The estimated study time is 157 hours so if you average around 5 hours a week study you would complete in 8-9 months.

The course is delivered through an online learning platform which includes a variety of visual, audio and text-based presentations.

Support is provided throughout the course via a tutor who can be emailed at any time should you come across anything you are unsure of. There is also a support team by telephone.

The course is split into six units. There are a variety of ways in which you are assessed including two multiple-choice exams, a practical assessment, coursework and a portfolio.

Units 2,3 & 5 you will complete via E-Learning and submit your work to your tutor. If there are any areas for improvement or anything you have misunderstood you will be given feedback and the opportunity to re-submit.

Unit 6 requires a formative assessment which is assessed via a video. Students are asked to film themselves instructing five exercises taken from their program cards in unit 5. Upon completion of these units, you are ready for the assessment day.

Assessment day

To attend an assessment day you must have submitted and passed your E-Learning, Units 2, 3 and 5 and your formative assessment.

Once you have passed these assessments you may book your exam/practical assessment. Simply call us whenever you are ready and we will provide you with the details for arranging this. The exam/practical sessions are run on a student demand basis with eight students taking the exam/practical sessions at a time. The practical component will take place at a venue in Birmingham.

On the assessment day you will complete the remaining mandatory units of your course:

  • Unit 1 - Anatomy and Physiology for exercise (multiple-choice exam)
  • Unit 4 - Principles of exercise fitness and health (multiple-choice exam)
  • Unit 6 - Practical assessment - Instructing a client through 11 exercises taken from your program cards in Unit 5

Entry requirements

Students must be 16 or over to enrol onto this course. A degree of physical fitness is required to complete the practical assessments. It is also recommended that you have some experience of gym-based exercise, including free weights and basic level communication skills.

You will need Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer, which can be downloaded free of charge from the Adobe website. You will also need to ensure your computer is able to play sound as some of the videos include audio.

About the School

About Us

Study from Home was founded by Anthony Weaver.

Having worked in the distance learning sector for over ten years Anthony has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience as well as encountering the frustrations that face those looking to study in this fashion.

Distance learning provides many benefits.. the ability to study from home, at work, on the move... and importantly when you want to, be it morning, afternoon, evening or even the middle of the night. However, it does have its dangers. How do you know if a qualification is genuine? This is one of the most common questions asked and unfortunately, students aren't always given the correct answer.

That is where Study from Home comes in. Our biggest goal is to ensure students fully understand what their qualification means and how it will benefit them. Honesty and transparency are the foundations upon which we operate.

We strongly recommend you speak to our course advisers, either by telephone or live chat and all your questions can be answered and we can ensure you are armed with the correct information to meet your future goals.
