Program Description

This Bachelor's Programme is aimed at you who practice or are curious about folk music from other cultures than the Swedish or on art music outside the western tradition. Whether you're a singer or instrumentalist, you get to develop your own music style with the help of the top teachers in the field.

Please note that Swedish is required for this programme.

A unique education

KMH was the first to teach folk music at university level and we have the first professor of folk music in Sweden. For more than forty years, folk music has been featured at KMH. A very stable foundation for studies that develop your artistic and technical ability, provide a good repertoire knowledge and deepen your artistic insight has evolved over the years. Many of the courses are only available at KMH.

You will encounter a rich and stimulating folk music environment with Swedish and foreign folk music/art music traditions side by side. This programme will deepen your command of your own tradition and equip you for working with musicians in other idioms. All in order for you to manage a folk heritage but also develop your own musical style.

About the School

The Royal College of Music in Stockholm educates musicians and music teachers at the highest international level. KMH traces its roots back to 1771, and has recently moved into a modern campus area—the music college of the future. We preserve our musical heritage, and at the same time we are constantly developing.

The Royal College of Music has many strengths. We gather them under seven headings, each of which can hold an array of styles, varieties and methods, and teachers with a readiness to take care of each student's ability and focus.

The Royal College of Music has an important function in Swedish society. Here at The Royal College of Music we educate musicians and music teachers who work at all levels in Swedish music and all around the world. Our alumni, former students, can be found on the major international scenes and in classrooms to give children and adolescents the opportunity to practice music.
