Coronavirus (COVID-19) update: Learn online now and on campus later. At RMIT we don’t want our students to miss out on a semester or a year of study if we can help it. We have updated hundreds of courses with online enabled learning options while not compromising on the quality of education and student outcomes. Find out how we’re helping you continue to go to uni during COVID-19 with our online enabled study .
You'll develop skills and expertise in a broad range of engineering management practices.
Through this program, you’ll gain important strengths such as:
You’ll be exposed to real-world issues in the areas of:
How you will learn - Campus (face-to-face) mode (study plan MC226)
Your learning experience will contain a broad mix of study modes including lectures, presentation seminars, tutorials and written assignments. Lectures and tutorials are typically delivered in the evenings throughout each semester with occasional weekend workshops.
Active engagement in class discussions is strongly encouraged, along with small group-based activities.
RMIT University is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice.
During this program you'll:
How you will learn - Distance education mode (study plan MC226DE)
You will connect to the lectures, presentation seminars, tutorials together with the face-to-face mode students via a collaborative system on Canvas, the RMIT Learning System. You can join a group of students in the class in written assignments. Lectures and tutorials are typically delivered in the evenings throughout each semester with occasional weekend workshops.
Active engagement in class discussions is strongly encouraged. You can raise a hand in the collaborative learning environment.
RMIT University is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice.
During this program you'll:
How you will learn - 100% Online mode (study plan MC226KP16)
Your learning experience will be purely online over a 6 weeks study period. Learning materials have been organised in modules that you will study every week in the period. No lecture is required. You will join collaborative study sessions once every week both as a class and if necessary, separate discussion room in your group in the collaborative session. Collaborative study sessions are typically delivered in the evenings throughout the study period with occasional additional sessions individual organised with the tutor. Written assignments are done either individually or by the group.
Active engagement in collaborative study discussions is strongly encouraged. You can participate in a written discussion forum at other times.

During this program you'll:
Industry connections
Industry plays a vital role in the development, delivery and assessment of the program through membership of the Program Advisory Committee (PAC), which comprises industry representatives, academic staff and alumni.
Multiple campuses
Most projects in the Master's Research Project course are based at the Melbourne city campus. Some projects, for example, with laboratory activities, may require travel to the Bundoora campus. Industry-based projects can be done in the industry with an agreed arrangement between the project supervisor, the company and the student.
Study mode
This program is available:
Note: 100% online programs do not provide access to Australian student visas.
Electives and program structure
The Master of Engineering (Management) consists of 192 credit points. After completing 48 credit points of study for four of seven specified core courses, you may exit with a graduate certificate. After completing 96 credit points of study for eight of the nine specified core courses, you may exit with a graduate diploma.
Once exited the program, you can re-apply to the Master of Engineering (Management) program. Credit points gained in the graduate certificate or graduate diploma qualifications will be considered for recognition of prior learning, subject to learning requirements in the Master program at the time of re-application.
In this program, you will study the following areas:
Specialisations in a few of the above areas are possible through your final year research project courses.
In this program, you'll undertake specific courses that focus on work-integrated learning (WIL). You'll be assessed on professional work in a workplace setting (real or simulated) and receive feedback from those involved in industry or research. The Master's Research Project involves WIL through an industry relevant project or through a research-intensive project.
MC226 is relevant to students studying on-campus.
MC226DE is relevant to students studying through distance education.
MC226KP16 is relevant to students studying 100% online.
You can mix study modes to accumulate 192 credit points. All study modes lead to the same award of Master of Engineering (Management).
Many engineers move into positions of management within organisations. This postgraduate qualification will give you the required knowledge to manage large engineering projects.
Graduates will be equipped to take on management responsibilities in engineering and technology-based enterprises and organisations.
