The Master of Business Information Technology (MBIT) is accredited at the Professional level by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) and is internationally-recognised through the Seoul Accord.

How you will learn

Your courses may be offered during the day and late afternoon or early evening. Some advanced level elective workshops are offered over several days and/or weekends.

RMIT offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches including lectures, seminars, workshops, presentations, group discussions and syndicate work. In addition, you will have access to online and digital resources such as lecture notes, assessment tools, discussion boards and podcasts through myRMIT.

Through RMIT University’s online learning portal, myRMIT, you will be able to view online resources and learning activities created by lecturers, access course materials via Canvas, collaborate with lecturers and fellow students and access your student email account. Educational software, the Learning Hub, other online and digital resources and printers are accessible on campus via the RMIT wireless network using your own laptop, tablet or smartphone or via computer facilities on-campus. You will be able to access the same software from home using myDesktop.

Ongoing assessment throughout the semester includes examinations, essays, reports, presentations, group projects, research projects, quizzes and tests, blog journals and practical assignments.

Industry connections

In addition to the expertise provided by the College of Business Industry Advisory Board, the School of Business IT and Logistics maintains strong local and international links with industry and business practitioners to ensure current standards and practice are reflected in the program.

Work-connected and industry-relevant options include:

  • industry experts are invited as guest lecturers to expose you to current industry developments in information technology.
  • opportunities for mentoring and employment by interacting with guest speakers from organisations such as Deloitte, Telstra, Accenture and PwC.
  • engaging with the start-up community.

You will be able to apply and contextualise theory to the world of work in courses such as Governance and Change in Digital Business, which requires you to evaluate the performance of real-world practice in relation to IT governance and change management strategies, and the Business Information Technology Project completed in the final stage of the program.

Duration

  • 1.5 years full-time or part-time equivalent (with advanced standing)
  • 2 years full-time or part-time equivalent (without advanced standing)

Depending on your previous studies and experience you could also be eligible for credit towards your program. Credit granted may reduce the amount of study you need to complete.

Admissions

An Australian bachelor degree or equivalent, or higher level qualification, in a business (or related) discipline from a recognised tertiary institution; or

An Australian bachelor degree or equivalent in any discipline and a minimum of three years full-time equivalent management experience*; or

The RMIT Graduate Certificate in Business Information Technology.

* Applicants will be required to submit a curriculum vitae (CV).

Fees

Fee summary

  • The indicative annual tuition fee for full-fee places in 2019 is AU$29,760* per annum.
  • The indicative annual tuition fee for full-fee places in 2018 is AU$23,040.

This program is offered on a full-fee paying basis only. If you are offered a place, you will need to pay the full tuition costs of your program. However, eligible students (such as Australian citizens or holders of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa) may apply to defer payment of some or all of their tuition fees via the Commonwealth Government’s FEE-HELP loan scheme.

Fees shown above apply to 2019 only and are based on an annual full-time study load of 96 credit points unless otherwise noted. A proportionate fee applies for more or less than the full-time study load. Tuition fees are adjusted on an annual basis and these fees should only be used as a guide.
