From Maternal and Child Health to Chronic Illness and Palliative Care, our research is changing and improving care for people at every stage of life – from their first breath to their last.

Your research will be hosted in our School and linked to the interdisciplinary and university-wide Centre For Evidence and Social Innovation and the Graduate School, extending your potential in the UK and internationally.

  • In relation to the Cancer Nursing, Supportive and Palliative Care theme, the School is a constituent member of the All-Ireland Institute for Hospice and Palliative Care and, through that, is developing an island-wide research portfolio.
  • The School promotes the integration of research in curriculum and practice development, working closely with our practice partners to develop future leaders in nursing and midwifery.

Internationally Renowned Experts

  • In Maternal and Child Health, we have conducted some of the first UK-wide trials on relationships and sexuality education in schools to help better prepare young people for positive sexual and reproductive health and parenting.

Student Experience

  • We offer fully-funded studentships to outstanding postgraduate researchers across our three faculties and five Doctoral Training Centres.
  • We have put together a series of videos to help you apply, as well as guidance on how to write a proposal, but first, please make contact with the Director of Postgraduate Studies, Dr Helen Noble, so that a suitable supervisor can be identified who can work with you on a research proposal prior to interview.
