Program Description

The Master of Arts and Cultural Management ( MAACM ) is a joint program between the Drucker School and the School of the Arts and Humanities. It is an applied program, designed for students with a strong background in the arts or humanities who want to combine management, policy, and decision-making training with advanced study in the humanities.

At Claremont Graduate University, you will be part of the dynamic culture of Los Angeles and its surrounding communities. Issues that most concern the global community of arts and cultural policy, now and for the future, are part of the unique cultural landscape of the greater Los Angeles area. As an art and cultural manager, you must be able to function as a community leader, planner, educator, facilitator, and fund-raiser. You must know how to interpret, influence, and formulate art and cultural policies and advocate the value and missions of an organization to diverse constituencies including artists, business people, government officers, and members of local communities.

Our program in arts and cultural management strives to achieve the optimal balance of advanced study in arts and cultural theory, policy, management, and hands-on experience. Internships, practical research on life issues, and a faculty engaged in the community-at-large provide a unique opportunity to master the skills and knowledge required of leaders in arts and cultural management.

About the School

What makes one school different from the next? We believe it is the philosophy and the people that will ultimately define your grad school experience. And our philosophy is based on people—management as a human enterprise, as a liberal art. The people you’ll meet at the Drucker School reflect this philosophy—from the staff to the faculty, to your fellow students—in every interaction. You will be treated with respect, praised for your individuality, and embraced by the collegial synergy of our academic community.

Here you’ll find high expectations and challenging programs, but also words of encouragement and expert guidance. You’ll find professors publishing the leading books in their fields who are eager to engage you in lively discussions about today’s most pressing issues. You’ll find a management style that values the cultivation of human potential as a company’s most valuable resource. You’ll find a school that is global, diverse, and rich with resources while being intimate and flexible enough for you to explore the path that is right for you.

Here at the Drucker School, you’ll find something different. But don’t take our word for it—experience the difference firsthand and discover the possibilities your future holds at the Drucker School.
