Program Description

Bjørknes College, in partnership with Comenius University, Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Slovakia and Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Oslo (UiO) a medicine education by one year in Oslo and five years at Comenius University in Martin, Slovakia.

Why medical education in the two countries?

Taking a medicine education in Central Europe is no news for Norwegian students. Together with Hungary and the Czech Republic, Slovakia has been one very relevant and popular country for Norwegians. Bjørknes has worked with several Central European universities over the past 10 years and have seen a growing interest among students to take the first year of education at home.

University of Oslo, Comenius University, and College Bjørknes

In cooperation with Slovakia's largest university, Comenius University and University offer Bjørknes chance to take the first year of medical school in Oslo. The program provides 60 credits means direct admission to 2nd year of medical school at Comenius University, Faculty of Medicine Jessenius.

Year in Norway provides a good opportunity to find out about medical education is the right choice for study and career before eventually go abroad to study. The tuition for the year in Norway will also be cheaper than the first year of studies in Slovakia. Students are considered as undergraduates at the University of rights and duties on an equal basis with other students. This means scroll membership in the student organization. The program is eligible Lånekassen.

About the course

The first year in Oslo consists of six courses over two semesters which together provide 60 credits. Courses are held at the University of Oslo (Blindern) organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Teaching and examinations held in Norwegian. In addition holds Bjørknes required courses in Slovak language, medical terminology, and a first aid course. Some of these courses are held in English. Summer Martin

After years of Oslo is successfully completed, students take a six-week summer course at Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Martin. The summer course is based on the anatomy and histology. When the year in Oslo does not fully cover the first year of medical education in Slovakia, the minor subjects be adapted for teaching in Martin, spread over the remainder of the study.

60 credits

After the first year in Oslo and summer school in Martin is a successful completion, students can start directly at the 2nd year of medical studies at Jessenius Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University in September of that year. If one were to conjecture not wish to continue medical education in Slovakia has still achieved 60 credits that can be used in conjunction with other higher education or to gain additional points for admission to such medical education in Norway.

Admission

General admission and at least four in grade point average without any additional points and at least 4 in English. In addition following the qualification:

  • Chemistry 1 & 2/3 2KJ KJ
  • Physics 1 / 2FY
  • Matte R1 or S2 / 2MX or 2MY or 3MZ
  • Biology 1 or 2 / 2BL

For fall 2010 semester may be a requirement that all students must also pass the entrance exam for the Comenius University, Jessenius Faculty of Medicine during the first year in Oslo.

Deadline

Application to Bjørknes College before April 15. We have rolling admissions after the application of any seats available until the semester in August.

About the School

We are a tertiary sector university college located in the centre of Oslo, Norway. We teach within the fields of health sciences and social sciences. We offer the programme of Peace and conflict as well as Tropical Medicine. We have around 2 500 students - and growing, with about half of these taking our online courses.

Our faculty members conduct research within the areas of basic medicine, nutrition, psychology, peace and conflict and international studies. We teach within the fields of health sciences (which includes foundation of medicine, medical biology, nutrition, anatomy, physiology and tropical medicine) and social sciences (psychology, peace & conflict studies and international studies).
