Program Description

Pharmacists practice health science focusing on safe and effective medication use and are prepared to offer support, counseling, and knowledge to patients and other healthcare providers. Graduates utilize knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology in order to understand biochemical mechanisms of drug action, drug uses, therapeutic roles, side effects, potential drug interactions, and monitoring parameters. Educational experiences prepare graduates to interpret and communicate this specialized knowledge to patients, physicians, healthcare providers, and the general public. The Oregon State University/Oregon Health & Science University (OSU/OHSU) Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) graduates are eligible for licensure as a pharmacist anywhere in the United States and are prepared to advance patient care solutions with creativity and confidence.

About the School

Mission

Our mission is to advance societal health through leadership in pharmacy education, research, community engagement, and improved patient care.

Strategic Plan

The College of Pharmacy has been an integral part of Oregon State University for more than 100 years and continues to play an important role in helping the University achieve its strategic goals and vision. The College is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. World-renowed faculty promote full and healthy lives for all Oregonians.

The College of Pharmacy recognizes that the field of pharmacy is expanding and evolving, and strives to offer the tools and knowledge students will need to adapt and thrive in tomorrow’s pharmacy profession.

The three foundational goals of the College of Pharmacy are to provide excellent professional education for our students and continuing education for practicing pharmacists; to foster outstanding and innovative research, and to contribute to public health by developing and promoting ways to provide medications safely and affordably.

At the core of this is the student body. Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) students study for two years at Oregon State's main campus in Corvallis, and move to Portland's Oregon Health & Science University for their next and final two years. At OHSU, Pharm.D. students help foster collaboration within the health sciences profession. Students learn a multidisciplinary approach to studying pharmacy theory and practice. The students in the College of Pharmacy's graduate studies program are involved in innovative biomedical research and other areas of inquiry that could have broad impacts on the health care and well-being of Oregonians and others around the world. The goal of the College of Pharmacy is to produce pharmacists who are independent scientists dedicated to providing a better quality of life.
