What Information Technology offers

IT has become an integral part of our society and new programmes and applications are being developed every day. With a degree in Information Technology, you can be a part of this innovation. You could be behind the development of a new online payment system or develop a mobile app that will be used by millions! With this programme, you can develop your interest in software and computers, and explore areas such as software, cyber security, games, web technology, company networks, databases and programming languages. The NHL Stenden campus in Emmen is home to some exciting state-of-the-art technology, so you get to work with the latest developments. And you’ll love the personal atmosphere on the campus, with your study coach guiding you through your studies.

Information Technology in Practice

You work on assignments from real companies during the course, collaborating in small groups and drawing on the skills and experience of lecturers and professionals in information technology. You could be analysing a company’s IT set-up, looking into its database management and cyber security, developing a mobile app or working on a software application. This method of working (Design-Based Education) means you learn to draw on feedback to adapt your ideas and become more flexible, while also developing your teamwork and leadership skills. It means you get hands-on experience of what it’s like to research and understand a company’s IT setup and develop solutions based on the needs of the company and its users.

Gain international experience

Studying Information Technology at NHL Stenden means combining IT skills with personal development so that graduates not only have a strong understanding of their field but are also capable of communicating their insights to a broader audience and in an international context. Our participation in RUN-EU means you can join Short Advanced Programmes and carry out projects with partner institutions in Europe. You can also go to one of the NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences Grand Tour locations in South Africa, Bali or Thailand. Or you can go on an exchange to a partner university or delve into a new way of studying. With over 100 different minors on offer through NHL Stenden and held at locations all over the world, you're sure to find the perfect specialisation, from Certified Ethical Hacking to Hack@Sea, from Critical Thinking & Data-Driven Decision Making to E-business.

About the School

As a university of applied sciences, NHL Stenden challenges its students, lecturers, researchers and partners to explore beyond existing solutions and possibilities, to discover and develop their talents so as to contribute to social progress. A quick glance through history shows that trailblazing ideas that make a difference often come from people daring to question what others assume. At NHL Stenden, we call these people groundbreakers. They have the guts to break down the status quo and make unobvious choices. They are unmissable in a world that is increasingly complex. And we believe that these groundbreakers can be anyone that simply dares to be themselves. It makes them original – and it makes NHL Stenden home of the originals.

Get ready to study in Holland

Studying abroad is often your chance to find out about different cultures. For some, studying in the Netherlands is a chance to explore a completely different culture, for others, there are more similarities. Our international students have found that sometimes the differences are in the details. Cheese is cheese, right? Or is it? When you study abroad, you’ll probably find that the things you now take for granted in your day-to-day life are no longer quite what you expect. Our students are more than happy to share their day-in-a-life experiences and show you what life can be like when you study abroad in the Netherlands. Moreover, they dig deeper into Dutch culture and tell you all about their experiences in a podcast series. Check out Experience Student Life at NHL Stenden.
