With our Creative Business degree, you develop your skills to become a manager in the media industry. You develop your insights into business and marketing, nurture your conceptual thinking skills, and learn how to use and apply different forms of media and technology. You get to explore all aspects of your creativity whether your passion is for film, radio, TV, online media, music, or video games.
Wherever your interest in media lies, whether it’s music, film, TV online media, or print, the Creative Business program prepares you to be a manager in the industry. You can expect a very hands-on approach with workshops and practical challenges giving you a true experience of the media and entertainment industry as you turn ideas into concepts into reality. You get to create, record, and produce media in our on-campus studios, complete with a radio studio, green screens, top-notch cameras, and audio equipment, as well as the latest design software, so when you hit the creative media industry, you’ll be well ahead of the game.
As your study progresses, you develop a portfolio of your work. It includes the feedback on your productions and your reflection on the assignment, focusing on what we call Unique Proofs of Learning. You’re the one who chooses what you want to learn or focus on within your media course working, for instance for the promo team, the Creative Business Instagram account, or the content platform Matters. frl or HOC Radio. With a coach at your side for academic matters and a mentor checking your well-being and study progress, you’re sure to get the most out of your university degree.
You work on assignments from real companies in each year of the course, often collaborating in small groups and coached by lecturers with relevant practical media & entertainment experience. This method of working (Design-Based Education) means you learn to draw on feedback to adapt your ideas and become more flexible, while also developing your teamwork and leadership skills. It also means you get hands-on experience of what it’s like to stand behind and in front of the camera, work on the production of a magazine, and delve into the needs of your target audiences.
Our partners in the media industry set assignments for our students and research partners to tackle a real-life problem or create a media concept that can then be rolled out by the company. You could research a company’s business model, develop media concepts, analyze or create a series of podcasts, look into community building, or design and create a special edition magazine.
By the end of your degree, you’ll be ready to take on a position in music management, media management entertainment management, or in the video game business. Whether you work for a company or set up for yourself, this business course will have given you the insights and helped you develop the entrepreneurial skills you need.

As a university of applied sciences, NHL Stenden challenges its students, lecturers, researchers and partners to explore beyond existing solutions and possibilities, to discover and develop their talents so as to contribute to social progress. A quick glance through history shows that trailblazing ideas that make a difference often come from people daring to question what others assume. At NHL Stenden, we call these people groundbreakers. They have the guts to break down the status quo and make unobvious choices. They are unmissable in a world that is increasingly complex. And we believe that these groundbreakers can be anyone that simply dares to be themselves. It makes them original – and it makes NHL Stenden home of the originals.

Why NHL Stenden: 6 reasons to choose NHL Stenden
Studying abroad is often your chance to find out about different cultures. For some, studying in the Netherlands is a chance to explore a completely different culture, for others, there are more similarities. Our international students have found that sometimes the differences are in the details. Cheese is cheese, right? Or is it? When you study abroad, you’ll probably find that the things you now take for granted in your day-to-day life are no longer quite what you expect. Our students are more than happy to share their day-in-a-life experiences and show you what life can be like when you study abroad in the Netherlands. Moreover, they dig deeper into Dutch culture and tell you all about their experiences in a podcast series. Check out Experience Student Life at NHL Stenden.
Studying abroad can be very exciting and become the experience of a lifetime. But it can also make you aware of big and small cultural differences. It’s therefore good to know more about some Dutch habits and experience student life on campus and city, to find out if you can see yourself at NHL Stenden in the Netherlands.
One of the most international educational institutes in the Netherlands, NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences is based in student cities known for their friendliness and openness, from historic Leeuwarden, quaint Meppel, and entrepreneurial Emmen.
