This three-year programme will give you a broad systems perspective on the relationship between environment, society and the natural resources of our planet. It integrates environmental issues with entrepreneurship and other skills to provide relevant knowledge for working in one of the world’s fastest growing sectors – Ecotechnology and green business.
The world market for environmental technology is, according to OECD, one of the world’s most rapidly growing branches of trade. The Bachelor’s Programme in Ecotechnology combines and integrates knowledge from natural, social and engineering sciences. The objective is to give a broad understanding of how to avoid and prevent environmental problems. You will get a deep insight into global, regional and local problems related to the environment and the use of natural resources by human society. You will also develop skills and entrepreneurship which makes you well prepared to take care of today’s and tomorrow’s environmental challenges.
Previous students emphasise the benefits of the special teaching methods of the programme. They explain how it has provided opportunities for individual development and given room for creativity.
The teaching is problem oriented and often contains thematic studies. Theory and practice are mixed in the courses. The programme starts with field studies in a beautiful mountainous area not far from campus. During the first year, you will work with thematic studies in Environmental Science and Technology. To make an individual specialisation of the programme the second year contains one semester of optional courses. You finish your Bachelor’s studies in Environmental Science by writing an individual thesis, which is often carried out in cooperation with a company, an organisation or an official authority such as the municipality or the county administration.
Title of qualification
Degree of Bachelor of Arts/Science Filosofie kandidatexamen med huvudområdet miljövetenskap translated into Degree of Bachelor of Science with a major in Environmental Science.
After the program
During the programme you will carry out projects in cooperation with municipalities and companies, which make you well prepared for a future career focused on environmentally sound development within both the private and the public sectors.
Can you send me more information?
More information about Mid Sweden University’s international programmes can be found on our websites (www.miun.se/en). On every programme’s webpage, you find information about entry requirements and much more. The curricula/syllabi are available by clicking on a button called “Curriculum” on the right-hand side on each programme’s webpage.
When is the application deadline?
The application deadline is mid-January every year (for the coming fall semester) for international students that require a residence permit for studying in Sweden. More info can be found on University Admissions (the central application system for all universities in Sweden). The “first admission round” is for students that require a residence permit to start their studies in Sweden (deadline mid-January). The “second admission round” is for international and Swedish national students that do not need to apply for a residence permit (deadline mid-April).
Electronics Design is the only international programme at Mid Sweden University where students have the possibility to start their studies during the spring semester. The application deadline is mid-August for the January admission.
How much does it cost?
Citizens of the EU, EEA and Switzerland are not required to pay an application fee or tuition. Students from other countries will have to pay an application fee and tuition for their studies in Sweden. More information about the application fee and the cost of tuition for each programme at Mid Sweden University can be found on University Admissions and on Mid Sweden Universities webpages.
Can I pay in installments?
The tuition fee must be paid one semester at a time, prior to the start of each semester. The fee for one semester cannot be paid in several instalments. When searching for programmes on University Admissions and selecting one, the first tuition fee instalment and the total tuition fee will be shown amongst the rest of the information.
Is this available online?
All international programmes offered by Mid Sweden University (except for Emotion Psychology) are campus-based. Emotion Psychology is an internet-based programme that has one to two mandatory meetings in Östersund, Sweden, every semester.
What is the duration?
The duration of each programme differs. As 60 credits are a full-time study load for one year, most of our programmes at Mid Sweden University are either one or two years long. Because Emotion Psychology can be studied at a part-time study pace (15 credits per semester and 30 credits per year), the duration of 2 years at a full-time load becomes 4 years at a part-time study load.
Can I take this part-time?
All of Mid Sweden University’s international programmes (except for Emotion Psychology) need to be studied at a full-time study pace (30 credits per semester = 60 credits per year). Emotion Psychology can either be studied full-time or part-time (15 credits per semester = 30 credits per year). This means, of course, that the study duration for part-time studies doubles.
Is this part-time or full-time?
All of Mid Sweden University’s international programmes (except for Emotion Psychology) need to be studied at a full-time study pace (30 credits per semester = 60 credits per year). Emotion Psychology can either be studied full-time or part-time (15 credits per semester = 30 credits per year). This means, of course, that the study duration for part-time studies doubles.

Other
Geographically, Mid Sweden University is located in the middle of Sweden, right at the heart of Northern Europe. It is a young university, but its roots go back more than 150 years.
As early as in 1842, in the same year as the elementary school was established in Sweden, the decision was taken to place a teachers’ education college in Härnösand. Teacher’s education is still highly valued at Mid Sweden University and today, Mid Sweden University has two campuses, Sundsvall and Östersund, with approximately 15 000 students. Around 50 percent are campus students, while the rest engage in distance studies via net based courses and programmes.
Every year students from all over the world come to study at Mid Sweden University, and we firmly believe that the international element of any education is a measurement of quality. We have partnerships with a number of universities around the world for the exchange of students and staff. We offer courses for international students at all two campuses.
As a university, we provide higher education of a high standard on undergraduate, post-graduate, and research study levels. We offer a wide range of course programmes within the social sciences, behavioural sciences, media, nursing, teachers’ education, information technology, natural sciences, technology, and languages as well as other subjects within the humanities.
