Program Description

BACHELOR OF ARTS in Christian Ministry is a 129 credit hours program in leadership development, practical ministry training, scholarly biblical knowledge, advanced preparation for continued education and employment, internship capstone.

In addition to the concrete and philosophical goals of the institution, the following program objectives are explicitly related to the B.A. in Christian Ministry:

Foundational Bible knowledge, which contributes to the formation of a Christian worldview, enabling the graduate to apply biblical truth to contemporary and cultural issues;

Competency in general education;

Skills for effective oral, written, and visual communication, including the basic use of technology;

Leadership competencies and professionalism appropriate to their role and sphere of influence;

Each concentration includes specific outcomes deemed essential to that concentration.

The Christian Ministry Degree includes the following concentrations:

Administration and Leadership  – Understanding organizational management principles, stewarding resources, representing Christian ethical values, and preparing to model Christian leadership in the marketplace. Students should achieve comprehension of best practices in the leadership of non-profit organizations.

Biblical Studies  – offers a comprehensive understanding of scriptural principles, theology, biblical language, and predominant themes of the Bible. Competencies include recognizing and utilizing educational research tools for the accurate exegesis of scripture and utilizing critical and analytical skills in teaching, preaching, and writing. Students gain the ability to utilize critical and analytical skills in teaching, preaching, and writing.

Discipleship Ministry  – offers an understanding of biblical principles of discipleship and the dynamics of spiritual transformation. Competencies include the ability to design/develop, organize, and lead such related ministries through activities such as mentoring, team leadership, one on one discipleship, and training. Intercultural Ministry  – offers an understanding and appreciation of principles of cultural diversity. Competencies in dealing with challenges and the ability to function within a specific context area are studies. Students gain thorough knowledge and practical application for advancing the Gospel effectively in a particular societal and cultural context.

Pastoral Ministry  – offers a thorough understanding of pastoral ministry's biblical principles, which includes the role of a pastor, pastoral theology, leadership styles, ministerial ethics, legal, business, and financial responsibilities. Competencies include a biblical foundation and practical application of pastoral theological practices, effective communication, interpersonal skills, and pastoral care, including ministerial ethics, administrative practices, and an understanding of stewardship principles.

Student Ministry  – offers an understanding of biblical principles relating to youth ministry and culture. Church leadership, staff relations, family issues, ethics, contemporary youth culture issues, legal and financial responsibilities, and effective communication techniques are studied. Competencies include a biblical foundation and practical application of theological practices, effective communication, interpersonal skills, administrative practices, and event management. Students will understand concepts of biblical discipleship and child and adolescent development in application to student ministry.

Worship Ministry  – offers understanding and appreciation of biblical principles of music relevant to worship and ministry. Competencies include assessing, communicating, and implementing the general and specific dynamics of effective worship with an awareness of Spirit-led worship. Messenger College is a legal entity operating under the statutes of the State of Texas. Messenger College is the national collegiate institution of the Pentecostal Church of God in the United States for its ministers, missionaries, teachers, and other professionals to serve its constituency and others in the United States abroad. The Pentecostal Church of God consists of 1,134 churches in the United States. The denomination’s outreach to Third World nations includes 3,365 churches and outstations, 107 schools and training centers, and numerous assistance programs providing food, clothing, and related human care outreaches.
