The Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology offers students a variety of pathways for successful careers in Psychology-related fields and advanced study in Psychology. Students may choose from concentrations in Counseling, Human Resource Management, Forensic Psychology, Lifespan Development, and Mind/Body Health.
Instead of choosing one of these concentrations, the student may also pursue General Psychology to gain a broad background in the field. All students in the Psychology degree program are trained in psychological research methodology, a critical component for understanding Psychology as an academic discipline and a profession.
In addition, the Psychology program maintains relationships with a broad range of organizations that offer internships in counseling, human services, healthcare, or business. Advisors work closely with students to plan the internship and ensure that the experience is successful.
The Counseling concentration is designed for students considering careers in counseling or other applications of Psychology to assist people in clinical and human service settings. Core coursework includes theories of psychological treatment and behavioral change, psychological disorders, effective helping skills, and research methods.
The Human Resource Management concentration provides foundation skills necessary to fulfill newly emerging and traditional roles in personnel administration and human resource management. Preparation includes a background in traditional personnel administration skills, such as interviewing and hiring, evaluation of progress and potential, and increasing work efficiency. Core coursework includes human resource management, career planning, labor relations, compensation and benefits, and research methods.
The Forensic Psychology concentration is designed for students interested in careers that focus on the application of Psychology to legal issues. This concentration serves as a strong foundation for those who want to pursue advanced studies in Forensic Psychology or in services that are related to legal issues. The curriculum includes courses in both Psychology and Criminal Justice Administration.
The Lifespan Development concentration is designed for students interested in careers that focus on children or other age-specific groups in the human lifespan. This concentration provides a strong foundation for those who want to pursue advanced studies in developmental psychology or in services to children, adolescents, or aging populations in schools and other applied settings.
The Mind/Body Health Concentration is designed for students interested in the interrelation between psychological and physical aspects of human beings. Students in this concentration pursue careers in the health applications of psychological science.
The Mansfield University of Pennsylvania Welcomes You! We currently enroll about 2000 students who can choose from 40-degree programs and 47 minor programs . Our student-to-faculty ratio is 16:1. Because of our small size, our students receive individual attention and work closely with their professors on research and other projects. Outside of the classroom, students can choose from more than 100 campus clubs and organizations and participate in intramural sports or join our athletic teams.
