The Graphic Design program offers a creative, interdisciplinary approach to visual design that integrates visual design, art history, studio art, communication, and marketing. Students learn to employ the design process to create visual communication products using a variety of tools and technologies.
In addition, students conduct professional presentations of their design work, while learning to critique the effectiveness of their own work as well as the design work of others. As part of the degree program requirements, all students complete an internship or practicum experience as a required part of their degree program. Within the Graphic Design degree program, students choose one of the following concentrations: Print Graphics or Motion Graphics.
The Print Graphics concentration focuses on the use of print tools and technologies to create, reproduce, distribute, and market visual messages. Students gain experience with drawing, offset and digital printing, photography, computer software and hardware, bookbinding, and exhibition practices. The concentration emphasizes the practical application of these graphic design tools and techniques for commercial purposes.
The Motion Graphics concentration focuses on the use of time-based motion technologies to create, reproduce, distribute, and market visual messages. Students gain experience with film, video, sound, custom software programming, custom hardware prototyping, and interactive media for screen presentation or site-specific installation. The concentration emphasizes the practical application of these graphic design tools and techniques for commercial purposes.
The Mansfield University of Pennsylvania Welcomes You! Founded in 1857, Mansfield University combines the best qualities of a small liberal arts college with the resources of a comprehensive public university. We currently enroll about 2000 students who can choose from 40-degree programs and 47 minor programs . Our student-to-faculty ratio is 16:1. Because of our small size, our students receive individual attention and work closely with their professors on research and other projects. Outside of the classroom, students can choose from more than 100 campus clubs and organizations and participate in intramural sports or join our athletic teams.
