Program Description

BA Music - Music Production (Hons) WHY LEEDS? Are you a composer wanting to earn the technical skills to take your creativity to the next level? Then Leeds College of Music's BA (Hons) Music Production pathway could be the right course for you.

Combining one-to-one tuition, small-ensemble work, and seminars, this in-demand programme underpins your flair as a composer with the practical know-how necessary to become a sophisticated music producer and compete in a fast-moving music industry.

You can choose to specialize in Music Production, combine it with another pathway, fast-track your qualification with the two-year Accelerated course or opt for the more vocational Foundation Degree in Music Production. YOUR TUTORS Our BA (Hons) Music Production students receive 140 hours of specialist tuition across three years, working closely with professionals who are active in the industry.

Your tutors include sound engineers and authors (Craig Golding), band members and booking managers (Jez Pritchatt), and composers and producers (Alex MacDonald Halliday). They're specialists in the musicology of music production and popular music analysis (Adam Martin); they've been session players for Kate Bush and composed documentary music for Sky, the BBC and Channel 4 (Brian Morrell), and produced work for installations and audiovisual environments (Sam Salem).

They are joined throughout the year by visiting professors of international repute who not only give masterclasses and workshops but also get involved in lessons and mentor individual students. Recent visitors have included Rocket studios manager and engineer Will Hicks, former Chrysalis CEO Jeremy Lascelles, producer and DJ Dom Ruckspin and songwriter, film composer and producer Gilbert Gabriel.

WHY LEEDS?

Shape your future in the UK's real music capital.

An acclaimed music scene and vibrant student population make Leeds the place to be for any musician serious about their future. And as the only UK conservatoire to offer pathways in Classical, Jazz, Popular Music and Music Production at both FE and HE levels, Leeds College of Music provides a uniquely dynamic, collaborative experience.

APPLE

Leeds College of Music was upgraded to an Apple Authorised Training Centre in June 2012, meaning that its facilities and trainers meet the standards set by Apple – the world's number one brand and technology leader in media, education and creative applications – and that the Conservatoire is able to offer the full range of Apple Authorised courses (leading to certified exams) to both internal students and members of the public.

As the only UK conservatoire with AATC status, Leeds College of Music gives its students a competitive edge in the job market through Apple pro training and certification.

STEINWAY & SONS

In September 2011, Leeds College of Music became an All-Steinway School, internationally joining the likes of Yale University's School of Music and the Juilliard School, New York.

As the only English conservatoire to hold the coveted All-Steinway School status – meaning 90% of its pianos are from the Steinway family – Leeds College of Music demonstrates a commitment to excellence by providing its students with the best equipment possible for the study of music.
