Program Description

The Master of Education program allows students to advance their degree and careers in education further. With an offering of four concentrations, prospective graduate students will find that they can easily advance their degree with ease and convenience to suit their goals. Concentrations are  Coaching, Special Education, TESOL , and  Literacy with Reading Endorsement.

LEC's  Masters of Education (M.ED) with a coaching concentration  is designed to help working teachers become high-quality sports coaches by offering them a specific understanding of the sports environment's unique elements. This program will help teachers interested in coaching and former athletes apply their skills as teachers to the practice of coaching.

The program approaches the training of coaches by providing education in three areas representing core competencies for coaches—community development, leadership and ethics (2 courses), sport-specific coaching skills (3 courses), and program administration and evaluation (2 courses).

LEC's  Master of Education in Special Education  program is designed to meet working teachers' professional development needs. All courses in this two-year program are available online and run every seven weeks, allowing you to focus on most courses one at a time. The program is designed to help extend knowledge for teachers who hold a special education license and bachelor's degree in special education.

All courses in this two-year program are available completely online and run every seven weeks, allowing you to focus on most courses one at a time.

The  TESOL Endorsement  is designed to provide teacher candidates with the necessary knowledge, skills, and dispositions to successfully meet the challenges of teaching students whose first language is other than English. It will aid candidates in meeting the challenges of today's multicultural classrooms and comply with all state regulations regarding this population of students.

Master of Education degree in literacy  prepares to teach professionals to have an in-depth knowledge of literacy theories, processes, strategies, curriculum, and research. M.Ed. Students will learn how to apply that knowledge to plan appropriate literacy programs and curricula for various contexts. The 2-year program is coupled with a Reading Endorsement and can be completed all online.

About the School

For 160 years, Lake Erie College has been educating students for the world after college. We combine a liberal arts education with practical "real-life" experiences. We promote study abroad, offer opportunities for internships both in the U.S. and internationally. Through our curriculum, we address the needs of students who will work in an increasingly interdependent world. Our students learn to communicate effectively, think critically and creatively, and make informed decisions. The College's size allows students to develop leadership skills and take an active role in various student organizations and develop new student programs. Lake Erie College emphasizes the individual, not the "masses." Professors, not graduate students, teach our classes. Classes are small, allowing students and professors to know one another. We can honestly say that everyone "will know your name." Not only will the faculty and majority of the Lake Erie staff recognize you, but we care deeply about the success, development, and happiness of our students.

The College is committed to being mission-driven, fostering strong partnerships and collaboration in the region, service to the community, embracing diversity and inclusion, and helping students successfully reach their academic goals.

Lake Erie College provides an excellent, inclusive, and highly personalized education grounded in the liberal arts tradition. Guided by hope and care, our students are empowered to lead lives of personal significance and professional success as global citizens.

Lake Erie College is accredited by the Ohio Department of Higher Education, the Higher Learning Commission, and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
