Program Description

Graphic designers are visual storytellers. In Kean University’s BFA Graphic Design program, students learn to take their designs from concept to production for both print and digital. You will apply design principles in a variety of mediums, including web, UX, mobile, social, motion graphics, VR (virtual reality), AR (augmented reality), immersive experiences and more.

The program’s curriculum includes a liberal arts and visual design foundation, art and design history, and design theory. Build on your knowledge of design fundamentals with advanced courses in identity, branding, interactive, video, sound, motion graphics and emerging technologies. Students in Kean’s graphic design degree program gain practical experience through internships and hands-on collaborations with public and nonprofit partners.

About the School

Michael Graves College is dedicated to taking design and architecture to a wider public audience. It is comprised of two schools, the Robert Busch School of Design and the School of Public Architecture.

Michael Graves College at Kean University carries the name and endorsement of a man who was one of the world’s premiere architects and designers—Michael Graves. Graves is credited with broadening the role of the architect and designer in society and raising public interest in good design as essential to the quality of everyday life. We are proud to carry on his great legacy.

David Mohney, FAIA, previously worked as the Dean of the College of Design at the University of Kentucky and taught at the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in New York City, the Graduate School of Design at Harvard and the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles. A practicing architect, he was educated at Harvard University and Princeton’s School of Architecture. David serves on both the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Board of Directors and the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture Board of Governors.

Rose Gonnella is the Associate Dean of Michael Graves College at Kean University and Wenzhou-Kean University in China. Rose has taught graphic design for over 25 years, including courses in design theory, materials and techniques, as well as guiding Kean's web design curriculum at its inception. As co-author, Rose has contributed research and writing to several books and has written numerous magazine and newspaper articles on creativity, art, architecture and design.
