With a Christian spirit - a heart of love and devotion -, we train clinical psychologists who treat people with dignity and who can make full use of advanced specialized knowledge and skills.
Clinical psychology is a practical discipline. In order to be able to use technology and knowledge to help people, it is essential to experience learning through practice.
At the "Clinical Psychology Counseling Center" on campus, students participate in group experiences from the first year, and are in charge of client interviews from around the end of the first year.
Off-campus training is added in the second year. There are various training sites such as hospitals, adaptation guidance classes, and child and family support centers.
Create training records and verbatim records, and receive supervision at the counseling center or off-campus training. In addition, a full-time instructor will provide detailed guidance based on the report on the content of the practical training.
You can choose from (1) clinical psychology support methods research area, (2) Christianity and clinical psychology research area.
The clinical psychology support method research area provides subjects necessary for obtaining qualifications for the clinical psychologist examination, and cultivates the expertise necessary for understanding and solving the problems of each individual.
In the Christianity and Clinical Psychology Research Area, students learn the theory and practice of "care for the human soul," which is the core of Christianity.
Full-time faculty members who are qualified clinical psychologists offer courses unique to our university related to psychotherapy, in addition to the courses required to obtain eligibility to take the entrance examination. You can learn one step ahead such as cognitive behavioral therapy, interaction analysis, psychological assessment method, group psychotherapy, art therapy, child clinical psychology, etc. In addition, front-line professors join from outside the university to provide enthusiastic instruction.
*The clinical psychology course at our university and the clinical psychology major at the graduate school prepare a curriculum that corresponds to the training of "certified psychologists (national qualification)".
The power of clinical psychology is not perfected in two years. It is important to have the ability to continue learning even after completing graduate school.
Scientific thinking is essential for the practice of clinical psychology. Develop research skills useful for clinical psychology practice, such as understanding the issues people face, verifying and improving the effectiveness of support methods, and so on.
Students receive detailed guidance through special research (seminars) and interim and final presentations by the entire department, and write their master's thesis over the course of two years.

Professor, Department of Clinical Psychology
Human beings live with the hope that everyone will be happy. If you love only yourself in order to get happiness, you will never be happy. There seems to be no true happiness without uniting loving one's neighbor with loving one's self.
At the root of many problems, such as children and adolescents, family, social and international relations, is the tension between loving others and loving oneself.
Clinical psychology seeks to find ways for individual human beings to achieve happiness based on research into the movements of the human mind. Clinical psychology also seeks to be a discipline of service to neighbors, with the welfare of neighbors as the goal.
Atルーテル学院大学, we focus on practical education that refines knowledge and skills to support people. I value not only knowledge and skills, but also opportunities to think about people's happiness and suffering, life and death, and to review and deepen their outlook on life and values. We look forward to receiving your application.
Master's theses at this university are basically free for students to consider based on their own interests, and each year they are enthusiastically working on a unique theme.
There is a system in place to provide guidance throughout seminars and majors, and research methods can be selected from quantitative research and qualitative research according to the theme. Please see the title of the paper.
The Clinical Thanatology Training Program (CTTP) was newly established in 2012 as a program commemorating the 10th anniversary of the opening of the master's program in the Graduate School of Integrated Human Sciences. This is a new training program that comprehensively develops exercises and practices for research in terminal care and grief work at the graduate level.
This program is intended for graduate students who aim to engage in the practice of clinical thanatology after completing graduate school, and for those who have completed a master's course at this university or other universities (research student registration is required). It aims to provide practice, training and practice in clinical thanatology.
Please see below for program content and completion requirements.
Seven graduates of the 2015 "Clinical Psychologist" qualification examination passed the exam (pass rate of 58.3%). In addition, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the graduate school in 2005, with 103 graduates and 89 successful applicants (98 examinees) (examination rate for graduates: 95%, pass rate: 90.8%). %).
At our university, we continue to support the entrance exams by holding practice interviews (secondary exams) by teachers every year. In addition to regular classes, we provide detailed guidance such as case conferences and supervision for each interview for internal practical training , and weekly group supervision for external practical training.
The results of this exam are not only the hard work of the graduates, but also the result of such accumulation.
The mission of this school is to train persons who "serve God and the world in the spirit of Christ" through "instruction which values each and every individual."
Christianity--the founding spirit that supports Japan Lutheran College Christianity, the founding spirit that is JLC's legacy, does not only appear in lectures but is part of all campus life. Much can be learned and gained from the daily interactions with faculty, staff, and other students. Japan Lutheran College has a Campus Christian Center, where the Chaplain (pastor) provides leadership for all the worship-related activities and programs on campus. The Chaplain is served by a Chaplain's Assistant, together with other helpers and student volunteers who make up the Worship Committee. There are chapel services every class day. While worship is not compulsory, it does provide a place where faculty and students can come together as one, heard the Word of God, and join in prayer. Through the messages presented here, there are opportunities to see another side of those people that we interact with daily. The basis of our "Lutheraness"--as it were-of praising God and fostering a love for our fellow humans is found in this Christian instruction. It is our hope that the years of study at JLC will not only result in knowledge and skills but will be a time that deeply affects each of us as individuals.
