Program Description

Our two-year Master of Science in Environmental Science program (MSES) will prepare you to find solutions to complex challenges in areas you’re passionate about.

Deepen your science training and supplement it with an understanding of policy and law to understand how solutions can be implemented. Whether you want to advocate for renewable energy, support sustainable water resources, or find ways to mitigate the impact of global climate change, you’ll find what you’re looking for here. Throughout the program, you’ll benefit from the support of faculty who are all top research scientists and scholars in their field. They’re also dedicated educators, advisors, and mentors, ready to use their expertise to help you realize your goals.

Dual Degrees

Expand your career possibilities with a dual degree. These innovative and collaborative programs enable you to combine interests and broaden your learning experience within the O’Neill School and across Indiana University.

Get more education in less time with a dual degree—combine your MSES with an MPA and earn two master's degrees in less time than it would take to earn each degree separately and become sought after by environmental agencies also seeking policy expertise.

Tailor your Degree

Our rigorous core curriculum ensures that you gain a broad foundation for your more focused studies along with the tools and skills needed to apply that knowledge in the real world. You can customize your degree through your choice of four concentrations or work with your advisor to develop a specialized concentration that fits your unique career goals.

Service Corps

Serve the community while offsetting the cost of your education. Through Service Corps, you can get professional experience in local public, nonprofit, or arts organizations while earning a federal work-study award.
