Program Description

This rigorous program covers a broad range of practical and academic topics such as writing, producing, directing, picture and sound editing, cinematography, videography, sound, and post-production. You will study both fiction and non-fiction filmmaking. You will gain vital research and management abilities and attend seminars hosted by industry professionals, giving you access to valuable insights and contacts. A film and media theory component is combined with courses such as entertainment law and media entrepreneurship, preparing graduates for their careers in film. A capstone project in your final year will allow you to apply your skills and demonstrate your creative vision.

Admission selection is based on the academic criteria indicated. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission.


Admission selection is based on the following four requirements:

  • Academic

To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
  • Grade 12 English (ENG4U or equivalent) minimum 65 per cent
  • Five Grade 12 U or M courses in addition to those listed above
  • Overall minimum grade point average (GPA) 65 per cent

or

  • Mature student status

or

  • College or university transfer status

Media Project

Overview - The purpose of the media project is for us to get to know you. We want to see your creativity, storytelling, and problem-solving potential. Your project should showcase your strengths and interests whether they are in writing, camera, editing, sound, or another area. We’re more interested in your ideas than polished technical skills. Use any technology you have available (cell phones and home computers included).

Theme options - Choose one of the following themes for your project. Think of the theme as a starting point for your creativity.

Project Guidelines

▫ The project can be a video (with or without sound) or an audio-only piece.

▫ The project must be original and created by you (do not submit a project by someone else).

▫ Any genre is welcome: drama, comedy, documentary, experimental, etc.

▫ As much as possible, try to tell your story without narration or on-screen text (for video submissions only).

▫ Maximum length: 2 minutes.

▫ Include your chosen theme in the project’s title. For Example: “Listening to Nature: My favourite of the five senses”, by Applicant Name.


English Language Proficiency

All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

International Credit Evaluation

Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a credential evaluation. Note, for international High school education course by course evaluations, ICAS must be used. For international post-secondary education, a WES evaluation must be provided. In situations where you expect to apply for transfer credit, it is recommended that a course by course WES evaluation is completed.

Scholarship Opportunities

Application-Based Scholarships

Humber offers hundreds of different types of scholarships recognizing academic achievement, community involvement, leadership, volunteer services, and in some cases, to help with financial need. Entrance Scholarships

To recognize academic achievement, Humber offers Degree Entrance and Degree Transfer Scholarships. These scholarships are automatically awarded based on academic average or credential completion.

Degree Entrance Scholarships

Humber awards degree scholarships automatically to graduating high school students based on academic achievement. See the following chart for details. Some of the scholarships are renewable each year if you maintain an average of 80 per cent or more.

Degree Transfer Scholarships ($1,500 - $2,500) Humber automatically awards degree transfer scholarships to students entering any Humber degree program who have completed a one-year Ontario college certificate* or a two- or three-year diploma with a GPA of 80 per cent or more from a publicly-funded college. Students who have achieved a program GPA of 80 per cent or more will be awarded a one-time scholarship of $1,500 for a certificate program or $2,500 for a diploma program in recognition of their academic achievement. Certificates and diplomas do not have to be related to the degree program of choice and are not tied to the eligibility for advanced standing or transfer credit. No application is required.

Indigenous Student Awards, Bursaries and Scholarships

Humber provides assistance to Indigenous Students in meeting the costs of their tuition and living expenses while studying full-time or part-time.

Bursaries

Humber is dedicated to providing you with a variety of bursaries to help you successfully pursue your education while managing your finances. Bursaries are available for Diploma, Degree, and Post-Graduate Certificate programs and are awarded primarily based on financial need. Academic excellence, extracurricular activities, and community involvement may also be considered.
