Our tourism program is a master's program in business administration with a specialization for the tourism industry. We combine the components strategy and development in a unique manner.

Short Description

The tourism industry is a dynamic and complex branch of industry which poses several challenges. We offer you the Tourism Development Strategies program in three variants, differing in length. Depending on the scope of the previous academic study, the accredited master's degree can be obtained in two, three or four semesters:

  • 2-semester master's program (undergraduate degree: 240 ECTS)
  • 3-semester master's program (undergraduate degree: 210 ECTS)
  • 4-semester master's program (undergraduate degree: 180 ECTS)

The program starts in the winter semester, irrespective of the desired variant. The program has been specifically oriented for the international market. In the 2-semester program, the courses are taught completely in English, the other programs are 80 % English and 20 % German. If you are on a 4-semester program, you have the opportunity of doing a prolonged internship (21 weeks). A semester abroad is also possible.

During the modular tourism program, we teach you the contents of modern teaching and learning methods. This means that you will gain theoretical knowledge that is further developed through accompanying practical simulations, business games and excursions to provide you with decision-making and problem-solving skills. Your social skills will be specifically expanded and demanded. In the last program semester of the respective variant, you will write a master's thesis to gain your master's degree, which then qualifies you to study for a doctorate at a university.

Practice-oriented lectures and realistic projects with our practice partners lay the foundations for a successful professional career. International and professional lectures from the academic world and the industry ensure that you learn to think strategically and to handle the changing and increasing challenges of work. Interactive teaching methods (e.g. discussions, case study, simulations, role plays) and own projects are important tools for putting academic knowledge into practice. Our program's specific modules mirror the demands of the professional world.

International academic study trips to business and tourism destinations at home and abroad will open new doors for you. They are a compulsory component of our master's tourism program.

Innovation Motor to Counteract the Lack of Experts

HOST is one of the most important institutions for educating highly qualified experts in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Graduates of our excellently ranked programs are highly sought after, not just in our region, but throughout Germany and abroad. Nearly all the programs can also be studied as part of a dual program with a high amount of practice. To make this possible, the University cooperates with several companies. At the same time, with its practice-oriented research, HOST is an important impulse provider for the state’s industry.

Activities and the Baltic on the HOST Campus

And as studying is, of course, an important part, but not everything, there are lots of activities on offer on campus. The student project teams, Baltic Racing and ThaiGer, for example, develop racing cars at the highest level. Recently, HOST was even able to celebrate a European Championship title. The student business consultants at SUS support companies throughout the region. Carpe Diem e.V. organizes parties, cultural events, and the legendary Campusspektakel. The campus offers a wide range of sporting activities. And of course, the University has its own sailing club. And don't forget: the nearest sandy beach is just a five-minute walk from the campus…

High Quality of Life, Low Rental Costs

Studying in Stralsund has another important advantage: living costs are much lower than at several other university locations. Finding a cheap flat with a very good standard in the town center is no problem at all in Stralsund. At the same time, Student Services, of course, offer cheap rooms in the halls of residence. Stralsund and the surrounding area provide excellent quality of life. The University can be seen from the Island of Rügen – Germany’s sunniest island.
