The best parts of business administration and tourism with an international profile: as a business-oriented program, Leisure and Tourism Management (L.T.M.), which is mainly taught in English, provides you with subject knowledge and skills in the fields of tourism, leisure, and languages. In addition to being practice-oriented, L.T.M. is especially attractive due to a large number of international excursions and study opportunities. This helps the program specifically prepare you for (inter)national business demands, in particular in the leisure and tourism sector, but also in the media and marketing branches.

Discover the world? Work with people? Or maybe rather something to do with numbers? If you're wanting to pursue a career in the tourism and leisure sector, you will need a broad foundation. Apart from profound management competence, psychological, legal, geographical and of course language skills are needed. With its resolute international orientation and the combination of theory and practice, the bachelor program Leisure and Tourism Management at HOST offers you the best starting conditions in the leisure and tourism sector.

During your studies, you will learn all of the necessary skills from the cross-sections of leisure and tourism, business management and law, marketing, media and creativity, as well as accounting and languages. The course structure at a glance:

  • 1st - 4th semester: study phase
  • 5th semester: main internship (21 weeks)
  • 6th - 7th semester: study phase
  • 8th semester: bachelor thesis

A period of stay abroad is compulsory and you can choose whether it should be a period of study or an internship. You can change the layout of the semesters to suit you best. We also offer the possibility to gain a double degree with selected partner universities abroad.

Goals and Career Prospects

Apart from gaining expert knowledge that is specific to the branch in the fields of management, leisure and tourism, you will receive broad training in business administration, which includes the teaching of accounting, marketing, project and HR management, statistics and corporate management.

Furthermore, you will learn the essentials from the areas of geography, sociology and psychology, which are so important to the leisure and tourism industry.

We guarantee you a highly practice-oriented method of teaching, capitalizing on our close contacts with players in the leisure and tourism industry and to exclusive cooperation partners and lecturers with years of practical experience.

As the majority of the program is taught in English, it helps to develop and train your language skills. By learning a further language, you also improve your chances for the international job market. This can be enhanced further by obtaining one of the optional double degrees.

Practice-oriented, Dynamic, International

Prospective students can choose from 27 accredited bachelor’s and master’s programs in German or English and one Diplom program. The programs on offer not only include traditional courses such as Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Business Administration, but also new and innovative programs such as IT Security and Mobile Systems, Motorsport Engineering, or Tourism Development Strategies. Currently, approximately 2,200 students from 36 countries are studying at the three schools – Business Administration, Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Informatics. That might not be as many as at other universities of applied sciences in larger towns – but apart from the clear practice orientation, it is above all the personal supervision that guarantees study success. Innovation Motor to Counteract the Lack of Experts

HOST is one of the most important institutions for educating highly qualified experts in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Graduates of our excellently ranked programs are highly sought after, not just in our region, but throughout Germany and abroad. Nearly all the programs can also be studied as part of a dual program with a high amount of practice. To make this possible, the University cooperates with several companies. At the same time, with its practice-oriented research, HOST is an important impulse provider for the state’s industry.

Activities and the Baltic on the HOST Campus

And as studying is, of course, an important part, but not everything, there are lots of activities on offer on campus. The student project teams, Baltic Racing and ThaiGer, for example, develop racing cars at the highest level. Recently, HOST was even able to celebrate a European Championship title. The student business consultants at SUS support companies throughout the region. Carpe Diem e.V. organizes parties, cultural events, and the legendary Campusspektakel. The campus offers a wide range of sporting activities. And of course, the University has its own sailing club. And don't forget: the nearest sandy beach is just a five-minute walk from the campus…

High Quality of Life, Low Rental Costs

Studying in Stralsund has another important advantage: living costs are much lower than at several other university locations. Finding a cheap flat with a very good standard in the town center is no problem at all in Stralsund. At the same time, Student Services, of course, offer cheap rooms in the halls of residence. Highlight: the student village “Holzhausen” situated right on campus!

Stralsund and the surrounding area provide excellent quality of life. The University can be seen from the Island of Rügen – Germany’s sunniest island. Not one, but two national parks close by enabling fantastic nature experiences. The Hanseatic town of is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an attraction for guests from all over the world. Lots of leisure activities and a rich cultural and party program make sure that the town is continuously expanding.
