Mechatronics and robotics are two important key technologies for the upcoming digital revolution in the economy and society. They are the basic components of Industry 4.0 and thus play a decisive role in determining the manufacturing and production processes of the digital future.
The Mechatronics & Robotics Master's program is a modern, modularised, English-taught full-time program with a high proportion of practical engineering training. The courses offered are being offered jointly by the two Faculties of Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences. This cooperation makes it possible to offer students outstanding interdisciplinary learning and study conditions in excellently and modernly equipped laboratories with the latest technologies. Students study together in the first two semesters but are assigned to one of the two specialization subjects electrical or mechanical engineering. The subject assignment takes place at the beginning of the course and should be oriented towards the respective Bachelor's degree and the individual interest of the applicant.
Students are taught technical and scientific engineering skills and abilities for the holistic development and manufacture of mechatronic products. In particular, the development methodology, for which German engineering is world-famous, is taught both theoretically and practically in special learning units. Special emphasis is placed on the handling of engineering simulation and software tools as well as on the latest rapid manufacturing technologies. The acquired knowledge and skills enable the graduates to take on responsible work in all areas of a modern business enterprise, including research. This also includes the ability to complete a doctorate in engineering at a later date.
The Hochschule Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences is a university of applied sciences in Thuringia. It is idyllically located on the edge of the Thuringian Forest. The green campus is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in Thuringia and Germany. All facilities such as lecture halls, laboratories, cafeteria, library, residential complexes and sports facilities are within walking distance. The students benefit from the diverse opportunities that studying at the university offers here: international orientation, excellent teaching, a wide range of subjects, modern equipment, guaranteed living space and an attractive university town.
Under the umbrella of the five faculties of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, economics and business law, the Hochschule Schmalkalden Sciences offers a wide range of study opportunities. The practical relevance and the good facilities at the university are the most frequently mentioned reasons for choosing to study in Schmalkalden. Forms of training such as project studies and practical phases are just as natural as small learning groups and close contact with the teachers.
All courses offer numerous opportunities to study abroad. The Hochschule Schmalkalden has a broad network of over 150 partner universities worldwide, which extend as far as Australia. Many students take the opportunity to study a semester abroad or do their internship in a foreign company and thus gain valuable experience. Particularly noteworthy is the possibility of obtaining a double degree at a foreign partner university: Master's students at the Faculty of Economics can obtain an MBA as a second degree in the USA, Canada or Spain free of charge.
