Program Description

The Master of Science (M.S.) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (60 semester hours) seeks to prepare graduates who establish a professional identity as professional counselors with a concentration in mental health. Our graduates:

  • Have specialized knowledge and skills for mental health service delivery
  • Have general knowledge of the influence of context on theories of human behavior, human development, and human relating
  • General knowledge and experience with treatment modalities appropriate for a broad range of mental health service settings
  • Have knowledge and respect for the influences of culture/ethnicity, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic class
  • Are prepared to provide competent professional service and leadership within the mental health field upon graduation

The M.S. program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). It is designed to equip students with the training and knowledge necessary to attain their Licensed Counseling Associate credentialing and pursue a number of post-degree supervised clinical experiences. Graduates of this program may achieve full licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Arkansas and clinical recognition as a National Certified Counselor. Clinical Mental Health Counseling students are also prepared to continue their studies in doctoral programs.
