Classes are taught on our Downtown Campus, assuring a learning experience that is enriched by opportunities and relationships fostered by faculty, student colleagues, and the nearby business community.

The carefully designed Executive MBA Program assists participants in developing:

  • A practical understanding of broad-based business skills and functions;
  • Enhanced leadership, communication, management, and group skills;
  • A modern approach to applying information technology and communication systems to the workplace;
  • Global and cultural perspectives;
  • A logic for problem-solving and analysis relevant to contemporary issues in organization and businesses.

The Executive MBA Program ensures proficiency in the requisite skills of business. It challenges students to think critically and analyze in greater detail the implication of decisions made in today's global economy. Students graduate with increased technical competencies and a renewed appreciation for the complexity of the world of business.

Executive MBA Program Schedule

HPU's 18-month Executive MBA Program is structured to acommodate the demanding lifestyle of working professionals. This intensive 18-month program permits participants to pursue their professional and educational goals simultaneously.

Executive MBA participants attend classes on Friday evenings and all Saturday. HPU's weekend format schedule breaks for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and other intervals throughout the 18-month program.

Executive MBA Program Format

Class size will not exceed 35 students. When working and learning together in an intense degree program that introduces a myriad of advanced management theories, participants quickly appreciate the intimacy of a small class. Many are employees from Hawaii's leading companies; others are entrepreneurs, physicians, and lawyers. Because the program is diverse and team-based, students often collaborate in small groups bringing together an interesting mix of backgrounds and professions. The value of diversity is that each student brings to the class a unique set of skillls and experiences that collectively create a learning environment second to none.

HPU's Executive MBA Program is recognized as a model for group-oriented learning that engages students in projects that hone leadership, communication, and collaborative skills. Whether conducting e-meetings from the home or office, or cooperating on team projects, Executive MBA students constantly rely upon one another's strengths as a means for achieving success. Relationships formed at the beginning of the program become a powerful aid in completing assignments and projects. The common responsibilities of work, family, and class unite the group serving as an important support system throughout the program. Executive MBA cohorts form into a network of friends and business contacts that continue long after graduation.

Executive MBA Admissions Process

A holistic approach is used to evaluate each candidate, and no one factor will exclude an applicant from consideration. The Exective MBA Program is designed for experienced professionals. A minimum of two years of work experience with evidence of knowledge and potential growth are important factors. Potential candidates must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. In certain circumstances, an applicant may be invited for a personal interview.

Each applicant will be evaluated individually. The admissions committee seeks a diverse class with a variety of backgrounds. Solid recommendations from individuals who are in a position to evaluate professional or academic strengths along with a clear and well-written personal essay can positively affect the admission decision.

The program is open to graduates of all disciplines and does not require course work in business. Students without business degrees are highly encouraged to participate in the education refresher courses.

Hawai'i Pacific University operates on a rolling admission basis so applicants are encouraged to apply early. Admission decisions are made as soon as all necessary documents have been received. Once a decision has been made, applicants are generally notified within one week.

About the School

Every business class at Hawai'i Pacific University tries to improve the primary skills you will need to be successful in a highly competitive job market. Each course is directed to have a strong component in analytical reasoning, communications, teamwork, and technology. It's really that simple: when you graduate you'll be required to analyze problems and recommend solutions, communicate clearly and effectively, work well with other people, and be comfortable with the technology in your workplace.

At HPU you'll be studying in classes, working on team projects, and networking socially and professionally with students from more than 100 countries and all 50 states. Those same students you study with today, are the same people you will do business with internationally tomorrow.

The typical professor at HPU is someone who has lived and travelled abroad, has the business experience to tell you how theory can be put into practice, and uses his or her knowledge and research to make the classroom a vital and stimulating place of learning. At HPU you are a necessity, not a nuisance.

Not only does HPU have rigorous business degree programs in 12 key areas of study, but it also offers opportunities for internships and co-op experiences. When you graduate, not only will you have studied business, you will have had the opportunity to practice some of what you learned. You'll have a diploma and a job resume.

Outside of the classroom you will be able to explore many social and professional opportunities. HPU sponsors more than 70 student organizations ranging from the Travel Industry Management Student Organization (TIMSO), to the Finance Club, from the AMA related American Marketing Association Club to the Economics Club. There are probably more exciting clubs and organizations than your time will allow.

For those students who excel in the classroom, there are honor societies sponsored by Hawai'i Pacific University that are business related: Epsilon Delta Pi for computer majors, Delta Mu Delta for all business administration students, and Mu Kappa Tau for marketing majors.
