The aim of the one-year Master’s degree in Biorefinery & Biomaterials (Master 2) is to train professionals specialising in the problems of biomass valorisation, in particular through the development and improvement of processes allowing its transformation into biomaterials, chemical products or energy sources.
This Master’s degree is available to students who have completed at least four years of higher scientific education, in France or abroad. It is a degree course of the Master in Materials Science and Engineering.
Several scholarships are available, in France or depending on the country of origin, to cover all or part of the tuition fees as well as the costs associated with the studies. Similarly, this program includes an internship, which can be carried out in a company or in a laboratory, with an average stipend of €600 a month if it takes place in France.
Grenoble INP – Pagora, UGA, specialises in the fields of fibre, biobased materials, paper and print media . The school offers masters-level and apprenticeship-based engineering training in these rapidly growing, cutting-edge fields, with courses that are unique in Europe. It is supported by major industry and research players in France and abroad.
As one of the eight graduate schools of engineering and management schools of Grenoble INP Institute of Engineering and Management, Grenoble Alpes University (an institution that plays host to 9,000 students), Grenoble INP – Pagora trains future engineers and professionals in the fibre, paper, printing, packaging, biobased materials and biomass valorisation sectors . It is these key players and decision makers who will pick up the environmental challenges facing our society.
The school has been involved in and committed to the circular bioeconomy and plant-based chemistry since the day it was founded. It was awarded Quality, Safety and Environment certification in 2011.
Grenoble INP – Pagora is partnered with numerous universities in Europe and North America, as well as being a member of several international networks . The school teaches its 2nd year modules in English and encourages international mobility through internships, study projects and semesters abroad. A core element of the training involves ensuring that students have the capacity to work in an intercultural and international setting. This is crucial to the excellence and employability of future engineers.
The school also boasts its own research unit, the Laboratory of Process Engineering for Biorefinery, Bio-based Materials and Functional Printing (LGP2) , which is used by 50 researchers and doctoral students, both French and foreign. They conduct research on nanocellulose, the valorisation of plant biomass, printing processes for surface functionalisation, as well as processes that use the smallest quantity of energy and raw materials possible. The laboratory is run under the auspices of the CNRS, Grenoble INP – UGA and the Agefpi.
