The international events sector has witnessed phenomenal growth and significant change in recent years. With global opportunities and a range of career choices, there has never been a more exciting time to pursue a career in International Events Management.
Our programme offers both a theoretical and practical approach to event management; from planning, marketing and staffing through to risk assessment and securing funding. You'll gain the skills and knowledge to create, manage and deliver successful events. You'll benefit from interactive and hands-on learning experiences, collaborating with business using social media, wikis, and blogs, providing you with practical skills that you can carry forward into your career.
Accredited by the Institute of Hospitality, this accreditation provides our graduates and future employers with the assurance that this degree is of a quality standard that is relevant to the needs of the hospitality, leisure and tourism industries and which meet accepted Institute of Hospitality international benchmark standards.
You will also benefit from industry speakers, field trips and real-life simulations that will provide you with networking opportunities, key insights and a competitive edge on entering the industry.
For new international students, orientation events start on 14 September 2018 . This extra time is specifically designed to assist new international students in settling into the UK and GCU prior to the start of general student induction and teaching.
There will be a whole host of fun and informative activities taking place during this period, including campus and city tours, as well as welcome events where you can meet other international students.
Combining practical and academic skills ensures that our graduates have the necessary skills, knowledge, and expertise to succeed.
Throughout your degree, you'll be encouraged to undertake relevant, practical experience of working in the events industry. The teaching team has excellent industry links with events providers throughout Scotland which open a wide range of work experience opportunities for our students.
To enhance your global outlook you can add international experience to your programme by choosing a study exchange with one of our partner institutions across Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia.
You can choose to study language modules as part of this degree. GCU offers modules in French, Spanish, German and Italian from beginners to professional level.
Our approach to the learning, teaching, and assessment is tailored to the needs of the events sector. We adopt a wide range of learning and teaching methods to ensure that you gain the necessary knowledge and understanding of the international business world, but also develop your intellectual and personal skills.
Our programme is designed to enhance the employability and professional competence of our graduates with the skills and attributes demanded by employers in a global economy, and provide you with the knowledge, skills and attributes to be responsible leaders of the future.
All modules include examinations and coursework in line with learning objectives. Assessment methods vary between modules and include unseen examinations, class tests, written coursework, presentations and group work.
The learning and teaching methods we use are designed to ensure that the programme is both vocationally relevant and academically challenging. Our approach is student-centered, practical, participative and relevant to the needs of the student and employers. We have moved away from the traditional teacher-centric learning in which the student's role is rather passive. Instead, we focus on a more independent learning approach, where you will be encouraged to generate and critically evaluate theory and practice.
As well as the traditional lecture, seminar and workshop formats, we adopt a multi-platform approach to learning that includes a wide range of supporting material, including podcasts, webinars (internet-based seminars), discussion boards and independent (including web-based) study. The nature of the classroom setting is a balance between knowledge transfer, interactivity, and group activities; with students having the opportunity to contribute to the learning environment.
Our range of modules from theoretical to practical and business-orientated will equip you with a critical awareness of the role of business in society and the wide range of knowledge and skills necessary to excel as a leader in the industry and social business or to launch your career as the entrepreneur.
