The Florida State University College of Music woodwind and brass faculty have an illustrious tradition of performance pedagogy. Besides receiving exceptional instruction from readily available faculty members, our students enjoy the advantages of weekly masterclasses, frequent contact with guest artists and clinicians, and the opportunity to perform in a wide and diverse variety of ensembles of outstanding quality.

The undergraduate winds program has a total commitment to preparing students for the demands of the profession, including qualifying for assistantships at the graduate level. First-year students and sophomores benefit from the experience of a chamber winds program that is unparalleled. The numbers who have employment in professional ensembles or enjoy faculty positions with many of the most prestigious universities and conservatories evidences the success of our graduate students. Scholarships for undergraduate and assistantships for graduate students are available to those who qualify.

About the School

Nationally distinguished as one of the most comprehensive schools of its kind among public institutions, the Florida State University College of Music has offered a high level of professional education in music for more than 80 years. If you expect to become a professional musician, you will gain creative and personal growth in programs designed to create composers, performers, scholars, and teachers.

The College of Music is headquarters to a variety of campus orchestras, bands, choral ensembles, jazz bands, and early music and baroque ensembles; 9 world music ensembles; and numerous chamber groups, as well as the Florida State Opera and the Music Theater Program. Each year the College of Music offers some 350 concerts and productions and regularly hosts national conventions, workshops, and festivals, such as the biennial Festival of New Music.
