Program Description

Clinical Laboratory Science is a 3+1 program conducted in cooperation with OSF School of Clinical Laboratory Science in Peoria, Illinois. This program is designed to develop competent professionals skilled in both theory and the practice of laboratory procedures. Providing the backdrop for the clinical experience that makes up the program's final year is a highly automated clinical laboratory, where a wide variety of routine and speciality test procedures are performed daily.

Clinical laboratory scientists may work as staff, managers, or consultants in hospitals, clinics, reference laboratories, or physician office labs. They may be generalists or may specialize in haematology, hemostasis, immunology, chemistry, blood banking, flow cytometry, molecular diagnostics, or microbiology. Clinical laboratory scientists may find employment as lab information specialists or work in quality management or infection control. Other opportunities may be found with laboratory supply vendors as technical specialists, service or sales representatives in forensic science, and education within medical centers and universities. Clinical laboratory scientists may also work in veterinary science centres or the armed forces. In contrast, others apply their lab skills outside of healthcare in agricultural, environmental, or industrial labs in research, development, testing, and quality control.

Students spend 3 years studying at Eureka College and will continue their studies there during the senior year if accepted by the OSF School of Clinical Laboratory Science. Upon completing the fourth year, the student will be awarded a B.S. with a major in Clinical Laboratory Science from Eureka College.

A Eureka College student must complete all general requirements and those for a major in Clinical Laboratory Science at Eureka College and accumulate 88 semester hours of credit before the final year. The student's responsibility is to apply for the bachelor's degree from Eureka College during the fall semester of the student's year at OSF School of Clinical Laboratory Science.
