The second cycle will be mainly devoted to specific training in translation. Students will approach, starting from two foreign languages and into French, various types of translation representative of the professional landscape: general, specialized, legal, scientific and technical, literary, audiovisual adaptation, etc. translation.
French courses and general subjects, including an introduction to computer-assisted translation, will continue to supplement student training. You will choose one of the following orientations: International relations and multidisciplinary translation, Language industry or Literary translation. To achieve these different aspects of our program as effectively as possible, translation and introductory courses in specialist fields are provided by professional translators and experts in the field concerned. These orientations are relayed by the organization of a professional translation internship, lasting 12 weeks, organized in a company or in a national or international institution. Finally, students will present a thesis in translation, subtitling, voice-over, terminology or translation studies, depending on the chosen orientation.
The reputation of the École de Traduction et Interprétation ISTI – Cooremans in Belgium and abroad is one of its strengths: more than 80 nationalities are represented among its 1000 students. Brussels, the second city after New York to host the largest number of international institutions, is indeed an exceptional crossroads where languages play a predominant role.
With its international recognition and 60 years of experience (ISTI was founded in 1958), the School has signed cooperation and mobility agreements with 110 universities in more than 30 countries around the world. Each year, nearly 200 students participate in various exchange programs with a view to improving their language skills. Our department also holds the EMT label (European Master's in Translation) awarded by the Directorate General of Translation of the European Commission. A large number of our graduates work in large international institutions (European Commission, European Parliament, Council of Europe, UN, NATO, IMF, TPI of The Hague…).
