Program Description

The Master program "Psychology with focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychological Empowerment" trains graduates for whom a diverse field of activity awaits. Over the course of the five-semester regular study period, in-depth knowledge and skills in clinical psychology and psychological empowerment are combined with health, preventive and economic issues in an innovative and interdisciplinary manner.

The study program focuses on concrete exercises and reflection units, which recur to the solution of recurring social problems. But it also represents an excellent basis for in-depth training and further education in the field of clinical psychology as well as occupational and health psychology.

In the implementation of this Master's program, the DIPLOMA University of Applied Sciences cooperates with the MEU study center in Magdeburg to organize the virtual and real on-site lectures on site and to provide a good network of practices and clinics where the internship can be completed. Responsible person at the study center in Magdeburg is Prof. Dr. med. Armbruster . He will be pleased to answer any questions you may have about the course of study or the organization of the study. The MEU is a subsidiary of the MAPP Institute, a state-recognized, renowned training center for psychotherapy.

Objectives of the master's program

The program aims to bring knowledge about changing personal behaviors and changing social structures closer together. The DIPLOMA University devotes special attention to the development of the students' personality. This happens through the promotion of individual talents and resources and through the careful accompaniment of the professional competence increase of the students. The teachers supervise the students in small teaching / learning groups in the virtual as well as in the real on-site attendance phases.

As a student you will learn in this Master's degree program to use psychological methods and instruments to solve problems in a rational and socially appropriate way. The degree program also combines the disciplines of "clinical psychology" and "psychological empowerment" in an innovative and interdisciplinary manner in order to successfully pursue the path to civil society demanded by many sides. The study therefore focuses on the question of how the processes of individual behavioral modification interact with social change in evolving civil society.

Graduates have completed in-depth, detailed and critical understanding of this discipline as well as instrumental, systemic and communicative skills in one or more specialized areas. The strong orientation towards a practical competence goes hand in hand with a clear personality development and corresponds with the ability to social engagement.

Career - Your career prospects after graduation

The DIPLOMA University supplements its basic offer "Applied Psychology (B.Sc.)" with this master's degree program in order to give graduates particularly high-demand occupational fields in clinical psychology and psychological empowerment.

  • They qualify for activities in the fields of psychosocial health promotion (eg health counseling or coaching), the prevention of mental disorders (eg in the company or school context), in psychological counseling in outpatient or inpatient areas as well as in education, health, social or economic institutions.
  • Likewise, our graduates are given employment opportunities in the field of personnel management, for example for personnel recruitment and aptitude diagnostics or personnel development and qualification.
  • Graduates also find attractive fields of activity in market research and corporate communications.
  • Furthermore, qualified Master's graduates are in demand in forensic and criminal psychology.
  • Further areas of application are education and training, expert reports, health and health care research and health reporting.
  • In principle, the Master's degree entitles the holder to a doctorate (300 ECTS credits are awarded with a Bachelor's and Master's degree).

The DIPLOMA University points out that access to further education for child and adolescent psychotherapists is always subject to an individual examination by the respective federal state in which this further education is to be included. According to the current legal situation, access to the psychotherapeutic psychotherapist with a Master's degree acquired at the Fachhochschule is usually not possible. Please have a look on our website under https://www.diploma.de/fernstudium/master/psychologie regarding current changes.
