Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Service / Educational Leadership / Entrepreneurship degree is offered by the University in keeping with Cumberland’s Mission to provide opportunities for advanced study in fields appropriate to the needs of the community. The MBA program provides individuals who have earned an accredited baccalaureate degree in any field with an opportunity to acquire advanced business expertise while continuing to work full-time during the period of enrollment. The MBA program of study was instituted in 1995 with the first graduates receiving the MBA degree at the May, 1997 commencement exercises.

Enrollment in the MBA Program is subject to acceptance. A qualified student may begin studies in the fall, spring or summer semesters. A student can complete the MBA program in one year. A student's matriculation must be completed within a maximum period of seven (7) years.

Courses within the MBA program of study are offered both on-site and online. On-site courses are conducted on the University's main campus in Lebanon, Tenn. The MBA program also offers some courses that are available completely online, and many "hybrid" courses (i.e. courses that combine on-line delivery with traditional in-seat classroom instruction). The Cumberland University’s MBA (Master of Business Administration) Program is fully accredited by the  Accreditation Council for Business and Schools and Programs  (ACBSP).

Degree Requirements

Thirty-six (36) semester hours are required for the MBA degree. Each course has three semester hours of credit. Typical courses are conducted over an eith week mini-term, for a total of six mini-terms per year. On-ground and hybrid course meetings are held on the Lebanon, Tennessee campus in Labry Hall.

Program Tracks

The MBA Program is divided into three tracks. Each track requires the set required courses, but carries its own electives.

  • The Services MBA – the first of its kind in the nation, focused on the service sector of the US economy instead of the traditional manufacturing sector. Students completing this program can expect to learn skills that will prepare them for employment or advancement within the growing service industry sector – including banking, insurance, publishing, entertainment, transportation.
  • The Educational Leadership MBA – the first in the Southeast, this program prepares professionals in education to advance within the administrative ranks of the school system and/or to manage a business ancillary to primary, secondary, or post-secondary education.
  • The Entrepreneurship MBA – our newest MBA track, this program focuses on preparing and equipping students to start or grow a small business. It heavily emphasizes entrepreneurial leadership and sales skills, along with the practical challenges of starting a business.

About the School

The Labry School of Business & Technology is recognized for its excellence in preparing students for professional careers in the private, public, government and non-profit business sectors. With an average class size of 20 students, there are many opportunities for students to have individual interaction with faculty. Course offerings emphasize communication, technical, management, and practical skills and knowledge needed for today's workplace. The school believes the business sector of society should strive to enhance the general well-being and standard of living of all citizens. Graduates are expected to exhibit ethical conduct, a keen sense of social responsibility, and insightful business decision making in the responsible pursuit of profitable gain.

The Labry School of Business & Technology is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business and Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and offers Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Analytics and Informatics, and the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degrees.

The School of Business & Technology offers four majors: Computer Analytics and Informatics, Engineering Science, General Business, and Management. The school's facilities include computer classrooms with state-of-the-art personal computer equipment, a multi-media, tieredclassroom, and campus-wide wireless Internet service.

Cumberland University is located in Lebanon, Tennessee, 30 miles east of Nashville. Founded in 1842, Cumberland University offers a variety of educational, athletic and social experiences to enhance the learning opportunities of the current student body.
