About the School

Copenhagen Business School (CBS) was established in 1917. Today CBS is one of the 8 Danish universities, with more than 21,000 students and 1,500 employees – faculty, PhD-students, and administrative staff.

CBS is Denmark’s largest educational and research institution within business administration and economics in a wide sense. The university is committed to providing business-related education programmes and continuing education for the public and, in particular, the private sector.

Programmes are based on a strong and internationally renowned research base which CBS works consistently to strengthen. CBS has a Centre of Excellence, funded by the Danish National Research Foundation, and has received five European Research Council Grants.

CBS is committed to communicating knowledge and new ideas to tomorrow’s business leaders and society in general. Its main contribution in this field is research and research-based education, and investment in research and high academic standards is therefore crucial to CBS’ contribution to society.

Being a government-financed private institution, CBS receives most of its funding from the government. Government grants to the university sector mainly consist of an activity-based educational grant and a basic research grant that is, in essence, historically determined for each individual university. Slightly under two-thirds of CBS' income basis originates from educational activities.

About Copenhagen Business School

Copenhagen Business School was established in 1917 and became integrated as an institution of higher education in the Danish education system in 1965.

Today CBS is regulated by the Danish Universities Act 2003 under the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Higher Education.

  • CBS is one of the largest business schools in Europe with close to 20,000 students.
  • CBS offers world-class research-based degree programmes at undergraduate, graduate, and PhD levels as well as executive and other post-experience programmes.
  • CBS creates and provides original and relevant knowledge through publishing, participation in the public debate, consultancy, and our expert database Experts@CBS.
  • CBS develops and shares knowledge in partnership with other universities, enterprises, and organizations and contributes to the development of business and society.

CBS is

  • The Danish member of CEMS (the Global Alliance in Management Education).
  • A member of PIM (Partnership in International Management).
  • Among the 8 danish and Swedish universities constituting the Øresund university network with more than 165,000 students and more than 10,000 researchers.
  • Triple crown accredited.
  • EQUIS-accredited (European Quality Improvement System).
  • Accredited by AMBA (Association of MBAs).
  • Accredited by AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business).

Since 2000, CBS has been accredited by EQUIS, and since 2007, also by AMBA.

On 1 August 2011, CBS was accredited by AACSB (Association to advance collegiate schools of Business) as the first school in Scandinavia. CBS has thus acquired ’the triple crown’, an acknowledgement only shared by 59 business schools worldwide.

Campus

CBS is primarily located in four modern buildings in Frederiksberg, close to the heart of Copenhagen.

Both the main complex at Solbjerg Plads, the architecturally acclaimed building by architect Henning Larsen at Dalgas Have and Kilen (the Wedge) reflect the characteristic Scandinavian style.

CBS has also rebuilt parts of the former Royal Copenhagen porcelain factory, and all parts of CBS Campus are within walking distance. CBS facilitates contact with different accommodation options for exchange students and visiting professors.

As of 1 September 2013, CBS expands the campus with three new auditoriums close to the Flintholm metro station. The auditoriums have 600 seats combined.

Total area in square meters (sqm): 118,550

  • 600 pcs available for students, multimedia labs, interpretation labs, and learning resource centre.

Student Facilities

Student facilities include multimedia labs, interpretation labs, break-out rooms for group and project work, personal computers, and Learning Resource Centre. Computers are replaced with new models at least every third year. Plugs for portable laptops are readily available, and wireless connections are installed in the main buildings.

Accreditation

CBS participates both in international and national accreditations. The main purposes of the international accreditations are 1) international branding and 2) learning international best practices on quality in education, research, and administration.

Since 2000 CBS has been accredited by EQUIS, and since 2007 also by AMBA. August 1st, 2011 CBS received accreditation by AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) as the first school in Scandinavia. CBS has thus acquired 'The Triple Crown', an acknowledgement only shared by around 50 business schools worldwide. These schools all belong to the absolute top business schools and include schools such as INSEAD, London Business School, IMD, and Rotterdam School of Management.

Three Accreditations - Different Focus

The three different accreditation labels are perceived as necessary due to their different recognition in different parts of the world, and because they – in spite of many similarities – have their focus on a different element.

EQUIS has a strong focus on research, internationalization, and partnership with the business community, while AACSB focuses strongly on governance, faculty qualifications, learning, and education. AMBA focuses solely on MBA/MPA programmes.

The Danish accreditation system was established by law in 2007. This means that all CBS programmes must pass a national accreditation over the next years. This work is administered by ACE Denmark.
