Program Description

CKGSB MBA Program

In our globalized world, the brightest prospective MBA students are rightly looking for a first-rate education in a market with long-term professional opportunities.

China is the world's largest and most significant emerging market. The Economist refers to China's past three decades of economic success as "the most astonishing economic transformation in human history." Even more important for forward-looking MBA students to consider, however, is China's vast business potential in the coming decades. MBA students should study where the future will be.

Some prospective MBA students may be concerned that the quality of education in China may not meet global standards. CKGSB has addressed this concern by attracting nearly 30 full-time professors who have joined us full-time from the faculties of schools such as Wharton, Stanford, INSEAD, NYU, Cornell, UCLA, and Yale. Take a glance through our faculty pages to gain a better understanding of the world-class quality of the CKGSB faculty.

CKGSB meets the exacting teaching and research standards of top business schools in North America and Europe, offering a high-quality education in the fundamentals of global business to China-based students. But in addition, it has become a vibrant and increasingly influential center of research and knowledge dissemination on business and the economy in China. In this sense, it is uniquely positioned to help students seize hold of the substantial opportunities presented by China's economic transformation.

Academics

The one-year CKGSB MBA curriculum provides students with a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of business theory and practice, while also addressing the cultural and ethical perspectives relevant to doing business in Asia.

The program aims to equip graduates with the analytical ability and confidence to face the uncertainties of real-world situations, deal with complex business issues systematically and creatively, and make sound judgments in the absence of complete data.

To complement academic coursework, Diversified Consulting Projects (DCP) offer students experience working with major international companies, analyzing business strategic questions and honing their marketing and presentation skills.

Inbound and outbound exchange programs help CKGSB students develop a global perspective and the ability to perform in cross-cultural work environments.

Course Description

The CKGSB academic year begins in late fall and consists of four terms, with a total of eight modules. Each term is comprised of 2 modules and is followed by a break.

The first four modules (November-April) cover required business fundamentals (economics, finance, marketing, management, and operations), and form the core curriculum. Module 5 - 8 (May-October) provides a selection of business electives, allowing students to pursue their particular career development needs. It also includes China business topics, such as Confucian Humanism, which instills an understanding of the ethical context of China business.

Diversified Consulting Projects (DCPs)

With Diversified Consulting Projects (DCPs), CKGSB students form teams to undertake consulting projects to help solve real-world business challenges. Working with support from participating organizations and CKGSB faculty advisors, students are able to translate classroom learning into professional, on-the-job experience.

Depending on the project, students may work for a multinational, private company, state-owned enterprise, or nonprofit. Participating organizations have included Siemens, Michelin, and Xinhua Finance. Typical consulting projects develop solutions related to strategic planning, marketing and feasibility studies, financial analysis, and operational evaluations.

Though participation in DCPs is not compulsory, the vast majority of MBA students choose to take part in the program, which takes place in late spring. Particularly strong student presentations have attracted interest from corporate recruiters.

The Global Classroom

The CKGSB MBA exchange program is designed for students to gain experience with the European, American, and Asian business world. Nearly half of the students in each CKGSB MBA class enjoy opportunities to spend a semester studying at one of our partner schools (see list below). Each year MBA students also enjoy a trip to Asia, visiting companies and meeting with key business leaders in the region
