The phenomenon of Europeanization and globalization has led to the expansion of business and other activities beyond national borders. For all this, there has been an increase in the demand for legal advisors and professionals who not only know national law but also have specialized knowledge of European and international law and know how to function in these environments.
The master's degree in International Law responds effectively to the needs demanded by this international context both from the corporate and business sectors and from the legal operators themselves. The international lawyer responds professionally and effectively to cross-border situations from the point of view of private or public law and within the European sphere or in situations with third states. The program is aimed at those future legal professionals who intend to practice law professionally and are completing the master's degree for access to the profession.
Specialization in the international field will make them acquire sufficient learning instruments to be competent in the field of law that regulates the legal aspects of procedural, civil, commercial, labor, and criminal law at the international level and in particular the EU, of arbitration. international and human rights, as well as new technologies. All of this is to obtain the appropriate skills and comprehensive knowledge of the main legal aspects to solve cross-border public or private law conflicts or with elements of foreigners that limit them in the discipline of private international law, and public international law. and EU law.
The Abat Oliba CEU University has its origins in the Abat Oliba CEU University Center, which created the San Pablo CEU Foundation in 1973 through an affiliation and collaboration agreement with the University of Barcelona. It began classes at its first location, on Pearson Avenue in Barcelona, in 1974 and, since then, it has trained more than 8,500 university graduates.
In 1993 it moved to the Bellesguard Campus and, as the Abat Oliba CEU higher education teaching center, it now teaches all the degrees in Law and Business Administration and Management, as well as the first cycle of the degree in Economics.
Ten years later, the new Abat Oliba CEU University was recognized by Law 20/2003, of July 4, of the Parliament of Catalonia, creating two centers in Barcelona: the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Polytechnic School of Engineering.
In the Preamble of the rules of organization and operation of the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU published in number 266 of the BOE, dated November 4, 2011, this institution is defined as follows: “The Universitat Abat Oliba CEU is a private non-profit university, promoted by the San Pablo-CEU University Foundation, an initiative of the Catholic Association of Propagandists (ACdP).
It adopts the legal personality of a foundation, with the name of Fundació Privada Universitat Oliba CEU, which was established on November 23, 2002, and was registered in the Registry of Foundations of the Generalitat of Catalonia on June 23, 2003.
The Universitat Abat Oliba CEU is an academic institution recognized by Law 20/2003, of July 4, of the Parliament of Catalonia, under article 27.6 of the Spanish Constitution and article 172.2 of the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia, and within the framework of article 101 of Law 1/2003, of February 19, on universities in Catalonia.
